Some of the best days seem to happen by accident.
When we accepted my sister-in-law’s invitation to join them for a weekend on the Gulf Coast, we knew it would be fun. But I had no idea that our Saturday there would go down in the family history books as one of the Best Days Ever.
What does your ideal day look like? Here’s mine: wake up to a view of the water. Pour a cup of coffee. Sit on a weathered wooden deck and watch the seagulls swoop around looking for breakfast.
About mid-morning, muster the energy to get the ice cream maker going. Follow the recipe and DON’T screw up the ice cream custard. Put a batch of homemade ice cream into the freezer to harden.
Load up the car with boogie boards, soft drinks, and sunblock-slathered kiddos. Head to the beach to play in the waves. Watch the seagulls some more.
Take a nap.
Read a book.
Sample the ice cream.
Watch a storm roll in. Drag out the Scrabble board because there’s nothing on TV. Calm all the squealing children as the power goes out. Play Scrabble by candle light.
Eat homemade vanilla ice cream with Oreos on top.
Sound like a fun Saturday? It was. And the only thing I actually planned out was the dessert. It was a good day, and I plan to tuck it away in my memory banks as one of the Best Days Ever.
Tell me something you would do on your Best Day Ever. Anyone who leaves a comment will be eligible to win my book UNSPEAKABLE, which is set on the beautiful Gulf Coast. Happy weekend!
