I spent the weekend in Los Angeles, where everyone is a sex object.
I kid you not. Even the hottie behind the bar, who served my happy hour drink, is an actor who is featured in an indie film currently in development with a fave of mine–Eric Roberts, ever since he made Pope of Greenwich Village (with Daryl Hannah and Mickey Rourke. One of his memorable lines:”Your mother’s mozzarella is tough!”…ya gotta see it.)
Okay, this is not about the bartender–or even Mr. Roberts, but about the objectification of women, primarily, and men, secondarily, which is the theme of the movie Don Jon. (See the trailer, below.)
Written, directed, and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock from the Sun, Looper, Inception, Bat Man) the film looks at sexuality from a man’s standpoint–something of interest to authors who, like me, write contemporary romance.
Do we always get it right? No.
Which is why it’s good to see a male’s perspective on love, even if it starts out as sheer lust.
