I love the organization, I love the conference. Always have.
This coming RWA conference in Anaheim with be my 8th consecutive conference. Almost 2000 romance writers and industry professionals will be in attendance. Editors, agents, publicists, press, bloggers and a slew of other professional types. The Literacy signing Wednesday night is nothing short of amazing, the workshops are fun and informative. The key note speakers witty and the Golden Heart and Rita ceremony inspirational and heartwarming. The RWA staff does a stupendous job each year, and I am always amazed at how seamless they make the event appear.
I love the social aspect of conference. I’m social by nature, so I love meeting my cyber friends face to face, meeting with my agent, my editors, and the par-tays! Love the publisher soirees, and my agency cocktail party. I love the luncheons and dinners with friends and hanging out at the bar.
I have always been a night owl and a late riser. EVERYONE knows, Karin does not do early. She’s a slow opener. This year is going to be veddy different. This year not only am I going as a writer, but also as a member of the RWA Board of Directors, a job I take very seriously.
It’s very humbling to be surrounded by this group of smart, savyy, innovative women. The current BOD is nothing shy of amazing, and it’s an honor for me to sit at the same table with them.
So, in about 24 hours, I’ll be headed to So Cal, my suitcase packed with no less than 16 different outfits between day and evening events (plus a few extra for emergency, what-the-hell-was-I-thinking-I-can’t-wear-that episodes) the accessories to go with each outfit, my laptop that I swear I will crack open and never will, and a super duper extra-large cell phone battery, (must be accessible! Which reminds me, I need to pick it up!). You’ll probably see me with my cell phone either glued to my ear or me squinting as I text (hate texting and royally suck at it) and a drink in my hand, or, me running to an event I’m late for with said cellphone in hand, and saying to anyone who wants to stop and visit, “If you bring me coffee, I’ll buy you a drink later!”
Yep, that’s me, Krazy K on the run, and loving every minute of it!
I know a bunch of you are RWA members, whose going to Anaheim? And for those of you who are, I promise if you bring me coffee, I’ll buy you a drink!
