I’ve never done Comic Con–the Sci-Fi and fantasy fan convention–although there are times when I wish I had.
Seriously, I have no excuse for sitting it out. These events happen all over the country–all over the world, in fact–all year long.
It’s like Halloween, for adults. Okay, make that adults who are kids at heart.
Nothing wrong with that.
There are other fanfests, too. For example, Dragon Con is happening over Labor Day weekend, in Atlanta.
I think it’s cool that people will dress up in masks, out-of-this-world headgear, colorful Spandex and capes, for the sole purpose of becoming someone else, who they admire.
To pretend to have some special power that is super-human, but still be humane.
To live, grow, and be challenged, in some alternate universe.
To be different.
But if everyone had a super power, wouldn’t that make us all the same?
Each of us has at least one thing we’d like to change about ourselves. Would having a super power compensate for a perceived deficiency? Or would it create some other, perhaps even worse, issue to deal with?
Why can’t we just be happy with who we are?
Because it is human nature to strive. To seek challenge. To make a conquest.
To succeed at something.
To be special.
And not just to your mama.
Is there such a person as Pajama Girl? If so, I’ve got my super hero costume. My slogan would be, “The ultimate multi-tasker! Writes books, texts, vacuums, and does dishes–without every getting dressed!”
Doesn’t do it for you, eh? Nah, me neither.
In all seriousness, if I had a super power, I’d want to be able to tell when someone is lying. It would have saved me a lot of heartache in relationships, not to mention kept me out of some business ventures that weren’t worth all the hard work and time that went into them.
Maybe I’m being foolish. I mean, aren’t our mistakes how we learn, and grow? Our hard knocks make us crazy–but they also make us smarter.
Hopefully, smart enough not to make the same mistake twice.
Okay, then, let me ask you: if you had a super power, what would it be, and why?
Make it a good one!
