I’m guest blogging today over at Killer Crafts & Crafty Killers. But it’s not a traditional blog. I’m answering questions as if I’m one of my characters — specifically, Bella Caruso who has a pivotal role in BREAKING POINT, the 13th Lucy Kincaid thriller.
I don’t usually like writing as if I’m a character. I can’t say why — I have writer friends who write letters and scenes from deep in first person character as a form of “pre-writing” to help them understand their character’s motivations and goals. I’ve never done that.
But Lois offered up her blog to those of us in the Sleuthing Women box set, and I’m always willing to try something at least once. (Except skydiving. I will never jump out of a plane willingly. Or bungee jumping. Or walking over one of those glass bottom bridges spanning a thousand foot ravine. You see the trend …)
Anyway, I really liked the way the blog turned out. Answering Lois’s questions as if I were Bella made me love her even more. For example, I didn’t know if I could even answer this question because Bella is not naturally a “happy” person. I had to really think about it, and Bella came up with this:
What makes you happy?
It’s been a long time since I’ve been happy. I don’t really even know what it is anymore. But knowing the people I turned my back on—people who cared about me when no one else did—forgive me? I guess that made me happy. At least, it made me less sad. There is a certain peace, I suppose, when I go home. Not the home where I was raised, but the island I lived on after my brother rescued me when I was fifteen. I will always consider the island in Puget Sound, and the Dixon’s, my home.
I hope you enjoy Bella’s blog.
And a few other tidbits:
* I reviewed J.D. Robb’s DARK IN DEATH over at Criminal Element. It’s a fabulous addition to this terrific series and I was so thrilled to get an advanced copy. (I also pre-order the hardcovers when they’re first available because I have a very pretty collection of these books!) P.S. — you can also enter a sweepstakes over at CE for a copy of the book!
* A great review of BREAKING POINT went up on Criminal Element as well. I didn’t even see it until yesterday, and I’m thrilled. So if you were hesitating about buying Lucy’s latest … don’t! LOL.
* And remember: BREAKING POINT went on sale this week! This is the 13th Lucy Kincaid thriller, and I really love it. I hope you love it too! You can check out more about BREAKING POINT over on my website. And if you love this book, recommend it to a friend or three! Word of mouth is the best way to tell an author you love them.
Have a great weekend … reading!
