This last week has been crazy! I left for RT last Wednesday (and whoo hoo! JADED won Romantic Time’s 2008 Reviewer’s Choice Award for Best Erotic Suspense!!!), but the day before my editor called and asked if I could write a 10K word short story for a free read for the Simon and Schuster web site. Oh, and she needed it delivered this morning! “Of course I can!” I said as I nearly passed out. I flew home from Orland at 7:18 in the a.m Sunday morning landed at SFO at 1:30, helped my daughter throw a baby shower for her friend, took a nap, got up and wrote all night. Took off to Tahoe Monday morning with pregnant daughter and eldest son to visit with old friends, rushed home Tuesday, wrote all night, all day Wednesday and Thursday. Just before midnight last night, I sent the 13K short story to my editor. I hope she likes it! I hope readers love it! It’s set to release the week before MASTER OF CRAVING releases later this month.
Now, today I am packing again! I’m off to the Silicon Valley RWA Writer’s Weekend Con. I speak and sign and speak some more. Thank goodness I can drive there. Then Sunday we have a First Communion party to attend. Methinks I’ll crash and burn sometime Sunday night. My next conference isn’t until June. Then it’s off to Wisconsin for the WisRWA con. Can’t wait for that one. Lot’s of good friends up there.
I love conference, but I detest traveling to and from them. Airports are not my friends. Taxis are not my friends. Lousy beds are not my friends, and rooms like the one in Orlando with no wifi are not my friends. But the payoff is worth it. I love meeting up with old friends, meeting new friends, and readers. I always come home exhausted but satisfied.
Seriously though, I don’t know how agents and editors who jet off here and there all of the time do it. Just one week of it and I’m toast! I say that but cannot wait for National this July. I’m flying out Monday morning and not returning home until Sunday. It usually takes me a week or two to recover. I have to travel again in August but then I am house bound until my grandbaby arrives!
So, how about you? Do you like to travel? Do planes scare the crap out o you? I will proudly admit that this trip to and from FLA, I not only did not pop one Xanex, but there was no alcohol involved either! I flew straight and just told myself there was no way God was gonna let the cute little girl sitting next to me die. Mind over matter. Mind won. Of course it was the smoothest flight of my life both ways. Maybe that had something to do with it. Either way, I was proud of myself. 🙂
