But how, and when, did I make the leap to adult mysteries?
Recently I tried to reach back into the deep, dark recesses of my mind, in the hope of remembering the who, what, when, where and how…
But of course: Sherlock Holmes.

I heard Stephen King interviewed recently. When asked about all the books he’s written, he said he wrote each in a fog, the stories unfolding for him as he went, and when finished, there was another image that would take shape and become his next book.
I found myself smiling and nodding as he talked. It is a wonderful thing to realize you aren’t alone. It’s even more wonderful when you realize you might have something in common with Stephen King. 🙂
I’m writing my 70th book. The first 69 are vague memories at best. At the time I was writing them, that reality was more real than my life.
One of the great pleasures of summer is reading by the water…the beach, the pool, the lake, the sprinkler. During the summer months I like to drop a book into my bag everywhere I go in case I get a few quiet moments to myself.
If this writing gig doesn’t work out, I might become a private investigator. I took the coursework several years ago—night classes of processing mock crime scenes, lifting fingerprints, learning the finer points of surveillance, photography, self-defense, even crowd control and how to make a citizen’s arrest. Plus there was the firearms part, and the test at the shooting range. My certification silhouette still hangs in my office (it’s the first thing an intruder would see). The class was fascinating—and hard.
It’s always fun when an author gets the opportunity to be involved in the creation of her own book covers.
I actually found the perfect model for my HOUSEWIFE ASSASSIN series via a stock photo service. What a high it was to find the perfect model who embody the humor, spunk and beauty of my heroine, assassin and mother Donna Stone!
