Each book is a new adventure and my favorite part is meeting new people.
All my life I’ve been interested in photography, so I was excited to start my new book EXPOSED, which features a forensic photographer. Before I wrote a single word of the story, I set out to meet some crime scene photographers and learn all about what they do.
It’s a fascinating field. Have you ever thought about just how critical photographs can be in a murder trial? Pictures are worth a thousand words and prosecutors know this, which is why they rely so heavily on photos in the courtroom.
One crime scene photographer told me he considers himself “the eyes of the jury.” He talked to me all about the importance of being observant and not missing those key details–whether it be a discarded cigarette butt, or a soda can, or a partial shoeprint–that might offer important clues for investigators.
The more forensic photographers I spoke to, the more my heroine began to take shape and pretty soon I was off and writing! My story begins with a what if….
What if someone snaps an innocent picture… and captures a crime in the background?
This is just what happens to my heroine, Maddie Callahan, who is busy doing a free-lance photo shoot when she unwittingly witnesses a crime through her camera lens.
I had so much fun writing this novel! In addition to interviewing crime scene photographers, I also interviewed my sister, who is an amateur portrait photographer. She was also my first reader and the book is dedicated to her. Thanks, Jen!
EXPOSED is the seventh book in my Tracers series, which focuses on a world-renowned forensic lab where investigators known as Tracers help detectives solve their toughest cases. People ask me if you need to read the Tracers books in order and you don’t. I have a habit of jumping into a series right in the middle… so I know it can be frustrating if you feel lost. Each Tracers book has its own mystery plot and focuses on a different romantic couple, so you can dive right in.
EXPOSED was an adventure to write and I hope you’ll enjoy reading it!
To celebrate EXPOSED I’m giving away a Starbucks gift card. Leave a comment for a chance to win!
What you see can’t be unseen. What you know can kill you…
As a forensic photographer at the Delphi Center crime lab, Maddie Callahan is used to seeing violence up close, but she’s never before been the target of it. When a freelance photo shoot goes awry, she realizes she may have seen, and perhaps photographed, the kidnapping of a key witness in a federal probe. And although her camera was stolen, Maddie knows she has something that could be even more valuable to investigators.
FBI agent Brian Beckman has spent months investigating a vicious criminal known as the Doctor, only to have a key witness abducted on his watch. Worse, he’s falling for the woman who may be the Doctor’s next target. Maddie’s aloof facade hides a world of hurt that he wants to heal, no matter how much she keeps him at bay. But first he has to protect her from the danger that’s just out of focus, drawing close enough to shoot . . . and kill.
Really enjoyed Exposed – was very romance centric, Brian was such a cutie! And enjoyed learning about forensic photography too.
Can I ask – you have said you have a hardcover coming out – is that part of the Tracer’s series? I guess what I am asking is whether the Tracer’s series have all gone to hardcover now or is this seperate from the paperbacks? Are they linked in any way . . . need the goss! 😉
Please don’t enter me for the gift card . . live in the boonies and wouldn’t be able to use it! 😀
Sounds great, Laura! Congrats on the release and may you have many sales!
