Hmm sounds like a movie. Could be a sexy one or one of those thrillers that keeps you on the edge of your seat or a Freddy Krueger type, where the substitute is really an ax murderer, which would fit in nicely here at Murder She Writes. But it’s none of the above. It’s just me, filling in for the Tonemeister so she can head out for the day and have some much deserved R&R with her family.
And since I have a release this week, BLOODRIGHT, book two in my Blood Moon Rising trilogy, I took one for the team and said, I’ll fill in. Yeah, well, actually there was no arm twisting involved. It’s how we roll here at MSW. When one of us needs something there is a quick show of hands in the Sure-what-do-you-need-me-to-do department. It’s how Guns and Roses was created. Lots of helping hands. And some incredible talent!
So, Toni enjoy your vaycay from the blog today. We’ll miss you!
Now, in all fairness to me, I had this great blog planned out, I even stared it! I was going to talk about sex.  I mean Spring is in the air and pheromones are a flying everywhere, and BLOODRIGHT is sexy and people are talking about it. I talked about 50 Shades last week, Josie talked about erotica and erotic romance on Monday, I have a pair of Cooper’s hawks in my backyard waking me up every morning before the sun rises with all other their love talk, and well, love just seems to be everywhere I look.
I was going to talk about all of that sexiness but, I got sucked in by my current wip (work on progress), BLOOD VOW, book three in the Blood Moon Rising trilogy. I was up to my eyeballs writing an action scene and well, I forgot to write my blog! So, let’s just keep it simple shall we?
As a writer, I love love LOVE writing love scenes and  angsty emotional and/or snappy bantering dialogue scenes. I HATE choreographing and then writing action/fight scenes.
As a reader, which scenes do you prefer to read? Comment and be entered to win…hmm, let’s see, how about a trip to the Amalfi Coast? Lol, jk, how about a $15.00 Amazon or Barnes and Noble e gift cert?
Just answer the question or say hello and your name will be entered to be randomly drawn as the winner of the gift certificate! Easy peasy!

I’ll take the trip to the Amalfi Coast… the furthest south I’ve been in Italy is Naples & Pompeii. Excellent food, and well, Italian men. ‘nough said
.
Chris, if you win the trip, I get to go with!
The covers–OMG! I cannot wait to get my hands on these amazing books! I love reading those rip your heart out scenes and the hot sexy love scenes as well. And I love those action scenes, too. I guess I just love them all!
Well, Deb, BLOODRIGHT will rip your heart out a few times. just go to my facebook wall and see what my lovely readers are saying.
LOVE the covers!
The emotional scenes always get me. I love a good action sequence but I’ll take an emotional epiphany over action any day
sionedkla@gmail.com
Kassandra, I’m all about the emotions too.
I love snappy (snarky) dialog scenes as a prelude to the love scenes. Well, the snarky dialog is good with simmering passion and anger too, but best when followed by clothes whipping off.
Anne I wish I was better at snark snappy dialogue because I love reading it. sometimes though I amaze myself and come up with some great lines.
I love reading bantering dialouge scenes and high emotional scenes. Action scenes are fun to read too as long as they don’t go on, and on, and on.
Count me in too for loving the covers of your books! Gorgeous!
and on and on and ooooonnnn…
I hear you Linda.
and thank you for the cover love. I love them too!
Squee! The books look and sound amazing, Karin. I can’t wait to read them.
Personally, I tend to scan through the sexier parts of a love scene. What I enjoy reading most are snappy dialogue and action scenes. Give me gripping character growth and wicked plot points, too, and I’m sold.
Well, Beth, there is some wicked hot sex in this book. and some wicked wild emotional scenes. it’s one of those books that tear you up in a crazy sadistic kind of way.
Even my 77 year old mil was caught up in it all.
I love witty dialogue, but I also love emotional scenes. Sex scenes are pretty good too!!
ah, Kris, you’re so easy!
Love snappy snarky dialogue (Shakespeare did it so well in Much Ado About Nothing) and good fight scenes, think Jim Butcher’s Dresden books. Explicit love scenes, not as much, unless there is real emotional conflict going on.
Agreed, Carol, Butcher writes amazing action scenes.
and Shakespeare? The master of so many talents.
A nice, fiesty dialogue scene is always fun. When they lead to scorching sex scenes…all the better!
Two thumbs up from me, Janel!
I like the interaction between the characters, the tension you can feel before they get to the sex scene.
More thumbs up from me, Diane. Building tension is one of my specialties! I love that part of my job.
Oooh! My favorite scenes are snappy dialog scenes! No wait, awesome action scenes. Wait a second, I think maybe the smoking hawt love scenes…LOL actually I love any scene that is well written and draws me in.
You might say you hate writing those action scenes, Karin, but yours are some of my all-time favs. Like the fork scene with Jax in Enemy Lover?? Oh.My.Gosh. Coolest kick-ass heroine scene EVER. Lots of other scenes come to mind, but the point is I’m a sucker for a good scene of any type. I guess you could call me a scene ho. hahaha never mind that could be very misleading in certain groups *snort*
P.S. I would rather have the trip, thank you very much – we’ll go together and have too much fun =D
Bonnie it was because of that scene that my editor bought that series. She said something like, “You had me at the fork scene.”
I love Jax. LOVE her. Maybe I’ll write a series with just her and Marcus. Thoughts?
Hell YES!! I am 110% behind a spin-off series with just Jax and Marcus – absolutely =D
Now I can’t stop thinking about them!
I favor the love scenes and the chemistry that makes the two become one!
Stephanie, I agree about the chemistry. I told someone recently, if it isn’t there, then the story isn’t worth writing or reading.
I love the emotional scenes! And they can always lead up to some smexy ones, can’t they.
Claudia, me too! I wrote one last night between Rafa and Falon that just killed me!
I love the scenes when the guy or girl finally realizes they love the other person. I love the “ah-ha” moments. To me they make the whole book more interesting then it already is. These scenes aleays lead to a smexy scene to die for
angelbiker82@gmail.com
ah ha! Margaret! I knew you would!
I prefer the action/fight scenes. For me, this equates to SUSPENSE!
Janet, I love to be on the edge of my seat reading a book. Emotional or OMG! don’t go in that room the killer is waiting for you!
I like love scenes but my fav scenes would have to be witty banter.
Sabrina, good witty banter is priceless. I wish I had more of a knack for it, I’d write a lot more and put it in the bedroom.
I enjoy dialogue that is smart, witty and filled with quips an fun. Love the covers.
Me too, Diane! on both accounts.
I love witty, humorous dialogue and don’t shoot me but I love well choreographed action/fight scenes, too.
Wow, what a cover!!! I like the snarky/back and forth/action scenes.
Happy New Book Week!!
Thank you Catherine! Thanks to you all, I’m having a great release week!
I love the arguing. I love the angst scenes. I do not go back and reread the fighting scenes. I appreciate the good ones, but I could take or leave them
Danielle, I don’t go back and reread action scenes either but I will for the well done snarky sexy ones!
I love all types of scenes but my favorite is funny ans snarky dialogue.
Jeanette, I love good dialogue too. I write a lot of dialogue, I just wish I was snarkier.
Well, what a coinkydink! Because as a reader, I love love LOVE reading love scenes and angsty emotional and/or snappy bantering dialogue scenes!
That is SUCH a stunning cover for Blood Vow!
Well, than Miz, Chelsea, you need to pick up a copy of BLOODRIGHT!
I love the BLOOD VOW cover too. all three covers have the same models. the art department did an excellent job.
Those covers are so dang hawt! *fans self* Or maybe it’s just my frequent hot flashes….
Sex vs. Action. I tend to skip over the sexy bits. I don’t mind writing them but really? There are just so many ways to attach Slot A and Tab B. NOW, if the author really gets into the emotion going on behind those sexy bits, I’m there! Action is usually easy for me to write. I LOVE action. Unfortunately, it is so often written like an author doesn’t understand what’s going on. I’m happy to say I love the action in the MSW books! Y’all work for it!!!! And it shows. I read every word and that’s saying something!
As for the snappy dialogue? Oh yes, PLEASE! That can make or break a book and so much about the characters, their personalities, and relationships comes out there.
me too. Silver,
Emotions must rule every scene. even the hunt ‘em down and kill the mo’ fo’ scenes. i mean there has to be a hard core emotional reason the good guy wants to get the bad guy.
I love witty dialogue, in books as in life. It just brings characters alive for me.
Agreed LSU reader!
I love the first meet scene, or even more in reunion stories when the couple see each other again for the first time. These scenes are so emotional and resonate with me. I like to see what goes through their minds and their reactions. It can be fun, sad or both.
Na, I love reunion stories. that first scene when they see each other again and that spark flashes, then ignition then combustion. yeah, i like those. a lot.
The snappy/ snarky bantering scenes are my favorite. A good action scene is fun to.
Erin, you goils have inspired me to write more snappy fun dialogue. even in my darker stories!
You’re a wonderful sub, K-Tab!
(Um…I mean that in the pitch-in-when-needed way, as opposed to the school-marmish or BDSM way, fyi….)
Your covers are AWESOME!!!! Love them! And if readers to MURDER SHE WRITES read my post on Monday, they’ll know that I’m giving away a copy of your book, BLOODRIGHT, to some lucky commenter to my post. Also there’s a way to earn bonus points, too.
Love it that the birds in your ‘hood talk dirty to each other. I’ve always said you remind me of Snow White (except that you’re a honey blonde) and you’ve got the menagerie (animal, and human) to prove it.
xxxxxxxxxxxx always,
Josie
PS: Say helllo to “Grumpy” for me. (He knows who that is….)
Oh, Josie, you had me at sub.
I love you. I know we talk about it, but really, it’s past time we do our girl thang.
xo
ps, i’m available next month!!!
I’ll venture down into grumpy guy’s cave and throw him a bone for you. snerk.
I love scenes that show a lot of emotion, not much on fight scenes myself. Love a scene that brings tears to my eyes.
Quilt Lady, when I cry as I’m writing a scene I know I have done my job. I love it when an author can pull that out of me.
I love to read emotional angsty scenes, but I also love fight scenes. I’m with you though– those action scenes are tough. I’m still learning, but they are the ones I struggle with. I remember one author talking about watching kickboxing and wrestling simply to get ideas for moves. LOL I might have to try that:)
Brenda, I always watch action scenes and or fight scenes to get my creative juices flowing. I was watching the ending to an action movie the other night and the light bulb went off. It gave me the idea for the final battle scene in BLOOD VOW. With the Tabke twist of course, but it’s going to freakin’ rock!
Love the angsty love scenes too. The witty bantering. Bring that all one baby. lol
I wanted to say how much i love both the covers you have posted here today. I know they draw my interest. These both are covers if i was walking by i would stop to investigate them.
Lisa B
Thank you, Lisa! I love the covers too. LOVE. Them. I should have put the BLOOD LAW cover up but it was vera late when I wrote this last night, or actually this morning.
Call me a masochist but I love the dark moment of a book. I also like to see the hero do a fair bit of groveling to win the heroine back. The make-up love scene soon follows. LOL
Stacie, you are a girl after my own heart!
Very nice covers. I like emotional scenes and scenes with snappy dialogue.
Thanks, BN! I love the covers too. I think I need to ask my publisher for some cover flats!
I love emotionally charged dialogue between the hero and heroine and spicy, romance scenes.
me too, Crystal!
I love to write dialogue. The hardest for me to write is love/sex scenes. I don’t have any trouble reading them though.
Huge congrats on the release. When the Bronchitis goes away I plan on reading it.
Holly, I read on fb that you weren’t feeling well. I hope you feel much better very soon! xo
Hi Karin,
BIG CONGRATS!! So happy for you about this series.
As a reader, I love action scenes. As a writer, they’re so tough. But fun!
Laura, I stress over them to the point I just avoid my computer!
I love the scenes where the air is crackling with tension. It’s fun to see the sparring between the characters before they get together.
Me too, Jane!
I love snappy dialogue and action scenes.
Right there with you, Darcy!
I love snappy repartee and fight scenes.
Joyce, I like the snappy talk too. Still trying to embrace the action though!
I love the snappy bantering dialogue scenes.
Ditto that, Chey!
I actually like the action/fight scenes, they’re so exciting. I like great dialogue as well, especially witty scenes.
Barbara, I like reading good action, hate writing it!
I love the “make-up” scenes.
wow, i want to roll around on your covers they’re so good! I too like writing sex scenes WAYYYYY more than action scenes. I find action so difficult, i procrastinate until it’s all that’s left, and then grumble a lot. But sex? That I get!
Sophie, I knew that was how you rolled!
I love to read about the build-up of sexual chemistry like when the main characters are attracted to each other but still fight it. I also like the ah-ha moments when those characters finally give in to it or when they finally figure out who the bad guy is. Those parts are pivotal to engrossing the reader in the plot.
I love love LOVE a good book as much as you love love LOVE writing one! Can’t wait to read your new one.
Heather, I love the build up too!
Reading and writing it!
I LOVE writing sex scenes
I LOVE writing scenes where my mystery heroines take action.
SO both!
Awesome covers, BTW!
Lori, nobody writes hot like you do!
Thanks on the cover love. I could not be happier with them!
If the book is keeping my attention, I love reading just about type of scene. Sexy scenes are always fun to read, same with good action scenes. I know the book is good if a relatively boring part of the book is still keeping my attention.
As a writer, I have to agree with you on the action scenes. I’m not a natural fighter in any way, so it’s quite a stretch for me to write those types of scenes. It’s fun in a challenging way, though.
Katie, I’m not a natural fighter either, in the physical sense. I’m lucky that my husband, a retired cop, doesn’t mind helping me fight my way out of a scene once in a while.
Love good banterb, congrats on the new boook, greatmcovers, whoo
Thank you, Kim!
I like banter scenes that deal with emotional issues. I think Ilona Andrews does this really well with her Kate Daniels series.
I don’t know that I have a preferred scene I like to read. If it’s well written I’ll take the lot.
I think it depends on the kind of book I’m reading. Love the hot sexy scenes. But I love banter dialogue between characters.
not to big on the emotional, tug at your heart string ones.
I love a good love scene but what I love even more is the bantering, naughty flirting and the overall dialogue between the two characters. It makes the chemistry jump off the page and its what gives me butterflies when the characters finally get that smexy scene in the bedroom, car, against the wall,in the grass or wherever it may be
I love the banter. Nothing makes me want to turn those pages faster than a good argument with just a hint of sexual tension. Ok, ok. Maybe a lot of sexual tension LOL.
Trips are great especially when it’s been over 1-1/2 years…the economy sucks ;-( But more to the point I love reading love scenes. They keep me coming back, lol. The banter is fun too. Put the two together and it’s a winning combination that get’s me to put the author on my auto buy list. Fight scenes are important but I don’t like them too graphic or too detailed so they go on and on. I’ve read a few of those and wish they’d been edited to be shorter.
