Heh, Lorelei is in the house today!
And no, this post is not what you think it might be. Heck it has nothing to do with writing. Or promotion (GUNS AND ROSES IS STILL AVAILABLE!! GET YOUR COPY NOW!!)
See, we’ve been in remodeling hell for the last two billion years, and finally, our guest bedroom is finished! The room is completely cleared of crap. No more broken pinatas! No more discarded dress up clothes/prom clothes/painting clothes! No more LP’s that fall on your head when you open the closet door! No more naked Barbie dolls tied up to My Little Pony’s–which strangely resembled the plots in some of my Rough Riders books! (kidding) No more stacks of fabric for assorted crafts I’ll never do! No more piles of pictures and kids artwork I’ll never put in scrap books! That extra room is no longer a crap repository for everything NO ONE in the house wanted, or wanted to deal with, so it just got chucked in there.
Well, those days are gone.
The room is done. New paint, new window, new doors, new floor trim, new light, new carpet! But most importantly, a new headboard for the bed. Our good friend Mark built us a log bed, crafted from chunks of wood he found on his ranch. Tell me it’s not the coolest thing EVAH! Umm…don’t look at the wrinkled comforter, k? I’d just taken it out of the package and I have every intention of ironing it to a crisp finish — okay, that’s a total lie, but look at the overall picture, not my lack of ironing ability:
I’m so so so thrilled! Now our guests don’t have to sleep in the tree fort! But with the log bed, they can still pretend, right? And who knows, I might even keep a rope in the closet…you never know when a rope might come in handy
The only things left are to put in a closet organizer, a nightstand, and I’m having a settee recovered, then yee-haw, my western bedroom will be fully realized.
Next week? We start ripping out kitchen cabinets for a total kitchen remodel–yes, we’re gluttons.
SO, question of the day MSW’ers, if you could remodel any room in your house, which one would it be? I’ll offer up a couple of $15 gift cards to online vendor of your choice to lucky random commenters!
Oh, and here’s a tasty little shot called...Tie Me To The Bedpost…yes the shot is different than the drink of the same name –
1/2 oz of Malibu coconut rum
1/2 oz of Midori
1/2 oz lemon vodka
1/2 oz sour mix
Shake with ice and then pour in a shot glass

Add to Google

Love the headboard!! Would definitely re-do the kitchen. Man, I hate those honey oak standard tract home cabinets!
Now that shot recipe, yum!!!
Good luck on the remodel
Thanks Catherine! Enjoy the shot
My kitchen. It needs new floors and cabinets. My bathroom also. It is very pink. The shower is even pink. I would love to build one of those walk in showers that I see on DIY, that I would never be able to do by myself. lol
Oh Amy, a pink bathroom is the BANE of Kyle’s existence in ONE NIGHT RODEO – just saying, you’ll be able to relate!
Oh, I forgot to say but I love that headboard. That is so cool.
Thanks, I was so thrilled when we got it!
That is a wicked cool bed! How creative and definitely tie worthy. If I could remodel any room, it would be the kitchen or our master bathroom. The kitchen needs the cabinets refinished and new counter tops and the bathroom is just blah.
We remodeled our basement bathroom last year Jen, so now I won’t be embarrassed when guests stay here!
I love the headboard! If I could do any room it would be my bathroom. I would remodel it to a Japanese style bathroom.
Ooh, I love simple Japanese style too, that would be cool Shanae!
Love it Lori! Can I come be a guest, please?? We have a similar room in our house called the “game room” which has a few games but mostly all the assorted junk no one wants to deal with. One day I might just get around to cleaning it out…
Any time, Laura! You said you wanted to see Mt Rushmore, right?
I would re-do my living room. It has suffered from Devil Dog (a 2 yearold boxer) eating the furniture.
Bad doggie!
Great bed. Love it. I would remodel the guest room for sure. it is dull.
Thanks, Annie. Lots of color will cure anything in a room
I would remodel my loft….new furniture, paint, big screen….the works
It’s cool you have a loft, Erika!
I would redo our basement..my hubby needs a man cave and Bennett’s Living Room/Bar is perfect inspiration. I love the color of your guest room. Care to share??
Sure, Sara it is Dutch Boy paint, called Brick Oven DC319
Love the headboard
I would like to redo our bedroom but my husband doesnt like big changes
I love the bed …. and am going to have to try the shooter..
Thanks! I’ve had the drink – which has way different ingredients, but I do have everything to make this one!
I love the paint in that room and how it complements the rug. Great eye for design L!
Wendy, the carpet is cool. Very old west-y with scrolls. I didn’t bother looking at other samples after I found this one, almost immediately.
oops… My bedroom. I want to have a new bed made just saving the funds.
headboard is Awesome! That what I’ve been looking for for our guest room. We just finish remodeling the kitchen cabinets and floors. New carpet through out the house. The only things at this point that need to done are new Quartz or granite kitchen counter. Remodel main or guest bath…would really like nice big bath tub
Unfortunately both of those will probably wait till next year.
Sounds like you’ve been in remodeling hell too
we opted for the quartz countertops for the kitchen — I have a marble desk top in my office and although it looks lovely, I hate it because it’s so cold.
So all I can think of when I see that bed is:
1) Did Bennett McKay build that bed?
2) Does it have hidden hooks you can use to fasten ropes to it like Jack and Keely’s?
OMG I really have to stop thinking the Mckays are real. LOL
The bed is totally cool.
Liz, my mind went there too. I totally love the Mckays and saw this in their stories.
See, Liz? You’re not the only one who thinks the McKays are real — which is the ultimate compliment for a writer, BTW!
Liz, you totally cracked me up! I’ll admit when I saw our friends bed, that was the inspiration for Ben being a craftsman…so in a way, the bed inspired Ben instead of the other way around.
That was the first thoughts to my head too! Well that and you could wake up gloriously tied to that bed!!
My readers have deliciously dirty minds
That’s why I love you guys!
I love the bed
Thanks Sheila!
We are still living in campus apartments, sadly, so naturally there are many things I would like to change here. However, our kitchen is the worst. Needs new everything!
So Danielle, you’ll really appreciate it when you get a different place with a kitchen you like
I think I was mildly disappointed to read the actual post after that great title.
I would update my bedroom.
I do like to tease, huh Anne?
I would love to remodel my kitchen. It’s been discussed for over a year now and not one thing has been done yet. My carpenter husband could easily do the work but our house is the last thing on his mind since he can’t make money working on his own house.
Veronica, I know what you mean. My dad is a plumber and I had to laugh at his leaky faucet in the bathroom…he didn’t want to fix it after a long day of installing plumbing in other people’s houses!
I remodeled my kitchen a few years ago. I cried at least 3 times a week but it was worth all the aggravation! I also have a great shot recipe for you.
Fuzzy Worm
1 part tequila
2 parts peach schnapps
1 part orange juice.
I made a pitcher of it for a party last weekend. Yeehaw!
love the new bedroom. I’m currently remodeling my kitchen. Whose idea as it for me to be a diy’er, I’m sure it wasn’t mine. . . I’d rather be reading!!!
Sarah, my husband and I have done nearly everything in this house ourselves. A great skill set to have, but not fun to live in the mess!
What a great blog day-2 great shot recipes and we get to see the log bed. It looks fabulous. As for me, I would redo my basement. It is sooo creepy down there.
Rhonda, you should’ve had the recipe for your birthday shots
— our basement was horrible until we remodeled it, so I know what you mean!
Hope, that sounds delicious! I have all the stuff to make it so I’ll try it soon.
I’ve sworn I WON’T CRY over this kitchen remodel once we’re underway.
Love the bed! Don’t worry about the bed wrinkles. Whenever I need to iron something I just get out the Downy wrinkle release spray and smooth out the wrinkles with my hands.
If I could remodel a room it would be my bedroom. I love the furniture but the rest of the room really needs some help.
I am the worst when it comes to ironing.
Donna, working with color always jazzes something up! Try it.
I love love love the headborad looks great love the colors in the room.. I would redo my master bathroom in my house its a shower only which works on most days but sometimes I want to soak in a nice big tub..
We have a hot tub for soaking, and I’m so happy about that because it’s always ready!
Love the headboard. I would remodel our bathroom, with a big shower and multiple heads and a huge tub to soak in.
I hear ya, Shelly. When we redid our master bath, I put in one of those showers, my plumber father refers to as a “car wash”
I love the colors of your guestroom. In fact, I would like to repaint the walls in my office/guestroom (we never have guests) that same color. I have the carpet to go with it.
Helen, you should get that handsome devil hubby of yours to repaint it for you – the color is Dutch Boy Brick Oven DC329
I like your choice of colors. The bed is awesome. I know about remodeling hell I am married to a contractor so we are ALWAYS in a state of change. Just wish he would tackle the Pullman kitchen.
Thanks, Becky. Sometimes we felt like contractors because we’ve been in a state of remodeling for the 12 years we’ve lived in this house!
I love the bed! I would love to redo my bedroom but don’t know if I ever will. I don’t even want to think about all the stuff I’d have to move!
I’ve already told my hubby we’re NEVER moving once I get the house the way I want it!
I’d definitely redo my bedroom. It’s a big room but full of boxes of crafts, books, and miscellaneous stuff. We have lots of Indian maiden plates we’ve collected that would be beautiful in the bedroom with a western style. My husband is wanting to redo it in this theme. He also wants to put up a huge dream catcher. So I am looking forward to seeing more pictures of your bedroom. I love, love the headboard.
Thanks, Cindy, and that sounds like a terrific idea. I’m very partial to western style, obviously
I would remodel my bedroom to then become the be all of Master Suites. It must have a super duper sized sunken tub (with jets otherwise what’s the point) and it’s very glassed in shower (with at least 6 heads). I want my bedroom to have a fireplace , skylight and be large enough for a super duper king size bed (cause I am greedy), plush sink your toes in carpet. I ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE LOTS OF SHELVES, I want my books in there too you know the ones I don’t like to share
I adore that bed! It is so rustic and looks like a rope might just come in handy a time or two. Depends how discreet your guests want to be. LOL!!!!
If I could remodel one room in my home it would be the kitchen, need more cabinet space and bigger kitchen counters. Good Luck with your remodeling adventure!
Yes, Amanda, I cannot WAIT to get more counterspace and not have shit piled everywhere in my kitchen!
I would come and stay with you, Q, that sounds like an amazing space, let me know when it’s done
Hmmm.. kitchen n bath need help but i’d say add a new master Sweet! I hate hate hate not having my own bath!
Loved the headboard.. that’s right up my alley! I love the natural motifs! Can’t wait to see ur kitchen!
I can’t wait to have the kitchen done, R. The style for it is much more modern. I’m not one who likes fussy stuff and ornate cabinetry.
What a thoughtful gift that headboard is! And very tasteful for the guest room. As far as remodeling goes…I am in the process of finishing my basement, then would move on to the guest bath, kitchen and finally master bath. Learned to lay tile this past fall and just finished laying tile and putting in a rock wall for my pellet stove in my basement. Love it! Remodeling is a pain, but such a nice new start for a room!
We resemble the tile laying remark, Lisa! We put in all the tile in our house ourselves, with the exception of the basement bathroom last year. And I noticed I need to regrout…
I would redo my master bedroom. ..I would love a huge fourposter bed : )…
A 4-poster bed would have many…interesting possibilities, huh?
We have just started redecorating our bedroom and a new bed is definitley in order and one that can be used for more than just sleeping is a must. Your new guest bed is Fab especially the headboard & whats a few wrinkles bedding is made to be wrinkled. Looking forward to trying your shot recipie this weekend hopefully it will live up to its name LoL
Glad to be giving you ideas, Paula! And yes, one wonders what went on, on the bed to put those wrinkles in it
Love the bed & bedroom
Thanks Sara!
that’s a beautiful bed. today at noon, some guys are coming and replacing half the windows in the house we rent. which is a very good thing…they are old single panes and half are broken and we have been FREEZING this winter while paying astronomical heating bills. But, I’m kind of trying to figure out what my landlord is thinking by replacing *half* of them. I mean, I think the little heat molecules will figure out where the back door is…sigh. So I guess I want to remodel my office with in-floor heaters and eight feet of insulation in all the walls…
I hope the new windows keep some of the cold out, Sophie. Maybe he gets a tax credit this year and then next year by spreading it out?
I didn’t think it’d be a problem staying warm in CA!
My bathroom. While I like the big shower I really would love to have a bathtub to soak in.
We had a big tub in our old master bath and I insisted on a shower — but I do love my hot tub.
OMG! I so love the bed. Would love something like that. Very unique!
And I’d have to have my own house to have something to remodel so for now I’m passing on answering.
Some day, Barb!
That headboard is wicked awesome!!! I love things that are made from nature like that. If i had to remodel a room it would be my living room since my 5 yr old decided to decorate the carpet and the big suede couch with red and green silly putty! Grandma has a lot of explaining to do!! tried everything but it looks like elf vomit now! Lovely! BTW… LOVING Guns and Roses!
Elf vomit? Snort! That’s hilarious!
I forbid my kids from playing with Play-Doh for that very reason, but of course they found something else to ruin carpet.
So they aren’t allowed in this room, even tho they are older now!
Love the bed, it looks so comfy! I would remodel the kitchen, it needs a more modern look!
Thanks Timitra, I can’t wait for my kitchen to get started now. It will have that modern look
Since we are stuck in base housing for a few more years yet I can only day dream about having a house of my own. Take the good with the bad, we are warm so that is all that matters! However, in Sabrina’s make believe I’m a military housing contractor land, I’d redo the living room, more windows for the sunlight and the constant breeze in Wymoing;-)
**Wyoming…need more caffeine!
Wait – the wind blows in WY? Say it ain’t so! Kidding. I’ve heard that military housing is pretty cool though, from someone who was stationed there. Do you have really tall ceilings and lots of windows?
My daughter is doing her clinicals at the VA in Cheyenne — did you guys get tons of snow?
LMAO…yep there’s no wind in WY, it’s calm all the time;-)
The housig with the windows and ceilings are the historical housing, while beautiful, the bedrooms are very small. We’re living in the housing nicknamed “Cardboard Heights”. It’s great housing on windy days like today–insert sarcasm.
I am a firm believer there is a bubble around Cheyenne that is preventing snow:(
If your daughter needs anything while she’s here, let me know!
Cardboard Heights, huh?
I HATE that she has to drive that nasty section of road on I-80 to Laramie almost every day. When it’s not closed
She was at B&N doing homework the other day…
Love your new bedroom look. My cousin has a log bed too. They are so neat.
I’d like to add on and have a bigger bathroom, on the main floor, oh and maybe add on to the bedroom also. I’d love a walk in closet. Thanks for the contest.
I’m so thrilled with this bed, and it means alot because our friend made it
The wood is so cool up close, very gnarled, which is exactly what I wanted!
The kitchen, of course! I really, really, really need an update on my kitchen. My remodel is going as slowly as yours, I suspect. I have a room in my house that looks like a similar color to your bedroom, though!
I love color. My goal was to not have a single white wall ANYWHERE in my house and I don’t!
How many of those shots would it take before I try to tear out my own kitchen?
Honestly, we just moved into a house in Italy (I know, rough, isn’t it). The kitchen is super duper crazy small… as in 4 cabinets and 4 drawers small. So, if I could (if I wasn’t renting) I would do a complete demolition and remodel of our kitchen!
Love the books!
That’s really supposed to be…
Love the books. Keep writing. The Rough Rider series got me through my husband’s last deployment. He has another one coming up. I need MORE (much more, I could be a beta reader more) reading material!
I”m glad the books were able to take your mind off your hubby’s deployment – I have lots of projects in 2012, starting in June
Yes, poor girl, living in Italy
Kidding. But I do love European scaled furniture, I really loved IKEA kitchens, believe it or not but we don’t have one within 700 miles..
Most hee-haw-larious post I’ve read in quite some time, Missy Lori!
Spewed my coffee (which I spike with Bailey’s) so quite a loss in deed.
First off: I LOVE THAT DEEP CRANBERRY YOU CHOSE for the walls! I myself am a red wall kind-of gal. VERY impressed.
Secondly: I too have been conked on the head by raining LPs. Tip: Store them at the bottom of the closet. Then you have to go some to be wearing a David-Bowie-in-drag pope’s cap.
Thanks for making my day with this,
xxx J
You are welcome, Josie! And my LPs were embarrassing. Wang Chung? Robbie Neville? The Outback? Very 80′s huh?
The walls in my office are blood red — I jokingly say from my sweat and tears
Who irons? Housework if done properly will kill you! The headboard is unbelievable, should be in a western themed bed and breakfast. I would re-do my kitchen, it’s where the family gathers, holiday, birthdays, etc.
Ours too Janet, although we did put a small bar in our family room and that seems to be popular
I would add a toilet and shower stall in a back room that is not being used except to collect unwanted junk. I am in a family of 5 and we only have one bathroom. I don’t think in the 14 years that I have gone into our bathroom more than 5 times and not immediately had someone knock on the door. Arg!
Now I feel spoiled, Tammy — we have four bathrooms!
my kitchen! it has hideous green countertops and flooring. i HATE the.color.green. if we didn’t love the rest of house i never would have bought it due to the kitchen!
Lyndsey, I was the same way with this house. I loved and hated so many things about it. But it’s truly ours now…still, I can’t wait for my new kitchen! We had mint green walls in our other house.
Great re-do. Congratulations! One room at a time.
I have to ask . . . where did all those pictures go? I have an entire walk-in closet full of pictures. The best I’ve managed so far is to box them by year.
Marcia, the pictures are currently in storage. We knew we’d need a place to put everything when we started the remodeling last year, so we rented a storage shed temporarily. I will have to deal with all that at some point
When we moved almost 2 years ago we pretty much gutted our house. Living in and re-modeling at the same time I would not recommend. I had no kitchen for 6 weeks and cooked on a hot plate, did dishes in the bathroom. Luckily my hubby is very talented and did most of the work himself. Only room that didn’t get done was upstairs bath.
Lynn, we use our grill year round, so I imagine we’ll have lots of grilled food. I’m hoping I can crock pot some stuff too. It’s not too bad with only 3 of us home now.
As much as I’d love to remodel my tiny kitchen I’m going with my bedroom. I definitely need a bigger bed for more movement of the carnal sort and maybe a modest array of toys for when I have company of the male sort. I’d love a bigger closet and booksheleves everywhere so it’s my own personal paradise.
The shot sounds yummy and I love the wood bed! It’s gorgeous!
I love the “more movement of the carnal sort” comment Jenn! I will say I was surprised at how much smaller this room turned out to be after everything was in it.
I would want to re-model my living room. I’d make it even more homey and cozy. I’d want more bookshelves added, perhaps a corner devoted to books (wall to ceilings), some couches around and a nice, open window to let in sunshine.
Na, that does sound heavenly — I’d never get any work done, I’d be too busy lazing in the sun, reading
That bed is amazing! You need a volunteer for first guest?
We are in the same hell you’re in at the moment. We can’t redo the whole house at once and we just finished the living room and the office. The next room will be the bathroom. Im not looking forward to it!
I would remodel my kitchen. There’s nothing wrong with it, but its small and doesn’t have enough counter space or cabinets.
Love the bed…so cool! I wish I had skills to make things
I am grateful to know people that have that skill!
Our much smaller house had a smaller kitchen than this one, but way more cabinet space, weird huh?
Love the bed!
Since we’re rebuilding the house that blew away, I get to start from scratch on everything. I have to start making some kitchen decisions pretty soon. That was actually the room we were going to start working on in the old house, too. We still had harvest gold appliances and bright orange countertops from when the previous owners remodeled in 1972. Good luck with your kitchen re-do!
Thanks, Hope! Did you see that burnt orange and harvest gold color are making a comeback in kitchen appliances?
Love the bed! Especially that is it made by a friend and it is one of a kind. Lucky guests!
I am fortunate to love my kitchen. I have very few complaints about our. But one of those few complaints is my master bath. It has a stand-up shower, soaking tub, tons of storage and double sinks. It also has the toilet sitting right smack in the middle of the bathroom without walls surrounding it. So when I’m at my sink and my husband takes a seat on the toilet, he stairs straight back at me in the mirror. I love him but he doesn’t seem to love me enough to use any of the other two bathrooms in the house when I’m getting ready. So I would definitely start with the master bath!
Meant to say complaints about our house!
The “water closet” concept has come back in vogue in master bathrooms, where the toilet is basically a closet.
Your hubby loves you, and wants to be around you when you get ready, darlin’!
lovely bed. Very rustic. You could hang a length of rope on the bed post i guess and maybe a cowboy hat??? For me my whole house needs a make over but I would have to pick the kitchen as the number one room needing it. All of it needs to be gone and redone. It’s pretty bad. Mis matched cupboards, old flooring yeah it’s bad.
Lisa B
Lisa, in our current kitchen? We have a drawer that every time you open it, the bottom falls out.
So love the bed! I’ve wanted a log bed for ever!
Me too!
The kitchen tops the To-Be-Remodeled list in our home. In the next two years, we plan to install new countertops and put fresh finishes on the cabinets and walls.
Good luck on the work, Lori. I love the new bed. And if you spray wrinkle-release on that bedspread and toss it in the dryer for a bit, you’ll forget all about wanting to use an iron.
Thanks for the no-iron tip, I’m always looking for those!
My husband is collecting cedar posts from our property to make us a bed. LOVE YOURS! May take a lifetime at this rate. Since the twins are pretty much out of the house (one in college and one heading to the marines) I’m in the process of cleaning room by room. At this rate, I think a new address would be easier! If I could remodel anything it would be my office – make it bigger, bigger desk, more bookshelves, better flooring.
But if he makes it for you Pennie, it’ll be worth the wait!
I never tried to have a guest room when my kids were little. They needed the extra room for all their toys and crap
The room looks great and the headboard looks sturdy enough for those naughty thoughts it brings up
I really like the color scheme of the room. Personally, I live in a dorm apartment, which means I have a kitchen(ette), a bathroom and a bed/living room and I am not allowed to paint
So I have to live vicariously through your remodeling
of course if I could find a sofa-bed that didn’t kill my back I would totally rearrange my bed/living room so my guests don’t have to sit on my bed
Someday, Sophie, you’ll have a fab place of your own! And you’ll have spent a lot of time figuring out exactly how you want it!
After my dad’s Kim died they inherited her house, and gave me the one I grew up in to live in. The remodeled their whole new house, BUT left all the crap they didn’t want here. 20 years of crap!! The closets have crap from my high school years! Every room needs work, but if I could redo one room totally it would be the kitchen!! I want to do a farm style kitchen in bright red with white wainscoting at the bottem, and I want my uncle to build be a big restruant style booth. Ahh one day I I can ever get the rents to get their crap out.. LOL
That was supposed to say dad’s mom.. That’s what I get for typing with only one eye open this am.. lol
You’re forgiven
It’s funny Casey Lu, that it’s your parents stuff in the house, not the other way around. I think my mom still has my brother’s stuff…
I have been in remodeling hell gor years as well. We just finished our kitchen and living/dining room area and we are now doing my daughters’ bedrooms. Can’t wait to do the master bedroom
I love the look of your guest room, that headboard rocks!!!
Thanks, Leagh, I know we talked about this in Oct when I saw you so I’m glad your kitchen is done
Love the bed. Now you can get fun artwork to accessorize.
I redid my kitchen already. the tear out isn’t hard, it’s the rest that’s interesting.
I’d redo our bathrooms. I want a walk in shower with no doors or anything like they do in houses in tucson. Makes clean up easy. But Tucson doesn’t experience mold either
Julie I have three AWESOME original oil paintings I bought at a gallery last summer of…cowboy boots. They are so cool and I brought them into the room, but I still have no idea where to hang them.
That is such a cool bed! Lucky to have a friend that can do that. And it looks like the bed can get some of that shot action
Will have to try the shot too. Thanks for the recipe.
My hubby did a couple guns for him so it was a very fair trade
Let me know if you like the shot!
There are unfortunately a few rooms that need to be re-done. We have the projects on hold until more affordable times. However, one of the most needed for fix up is the kitchen. Very old cupboards and gaps around sink pipes that allow for creatures who seek warmth from winter to enter.
We had them critters too, and I called the pest control people. I could live with a crappy kitchen, and I have for YEARS, but not with mice!
I would love to remodel my bathroom! I want a claw foot whirlpool tub with a rock waterfall faucet and over flow area so I feel like I am in a waterfall. and a walk in shower. Sinks that lok like bowls sitting on the counter. I would do the entire decor in western/cowboy as that is my favorite. Baths are my getaway and my tub now sucks!
I love your bed and room.
artsyoil@yahoo.com
Thanks Ella! I love that you’re into the western look too
I love the bed what a beautiful job your friend did. I would love to have a new bed. We really need one, but I need a California King. My husband is 6’7″ and takes up WAY MORE ROOM THAN HE SHOULD. Also, 4 bathrooms, OMG that would be heaven. We have 2, 3 would be perfect though. As for which room I would redo. It would be the kitchen. It’s so small. We use the top of the cabinets as extra storage. It’s horrible. It’s not even an eat in kitchen. Again, way too small.
He’s 6’7″ Sharon? Wow! You def need that California King
My husband actually insisted on a house with that many baths, with 3 daughters and me, he said if he put in a bathroom with no mirrors in it no one would use it but him!
Lovely headboard. What kind of wood is that and do you have to seal it? Good Luck on the kitchen remodel. You getting a blizzard today, like the rest of SD?
I would redo my kitchen, it’s still in the 1970′s.
Janet, I don’t know what kind of wood, and it does have some kind of sealant on it and it has been sanded…
it looks like the bed is made as part of a tree with what the bed post look like. Very rustic.
I was going for rustic!
oh diffinately the bedroom, then i may actually have books that live on shelves, not on the floor
I have one wall of bookshelves in my bedroom — yeah, it’s full
Oh, my living room. I have so many books I just don’t have room for them all……
I’m weeding books Janet — ha ha, that’s a lie
I just let them overrun everything!
The bathroom.
I love the headboard!
Thanks! I think more people want a bathroom remodel than even a kitchen.
I would remodel my bathroom. Your guestroom looks great. Love the bed.
Thanks Crystal!
I want that bed! For my master bedroom. As for a room to remodel, I’d just like to see the shower finished in the masterbath. The DH started the project in 2007. Seriously. I’ve been waiting FIVE FREAKING years for my master bath to be finished.
Good luck with the kitchen! And maybe I’ll mix that cocktail. After a couple of those, I won’t *care* if the bath is finished or not!
Yes, we’ve been in remodel hell forever. By the time we’re done, I’ll probably need to start repainting the first stuff I did.
My kitchen! It’s on my bucket list!
Bucket list and kitchen, snort – K
I love it! What a cool bed frame.
I would remodel my kitchen. It’s sort of set up as many apt. kitchens are with a bar dividing the kitchen from the dining area. I would take out the bar, put in wood flooring and make it one big, open kitchen!
We have a dining room that’s open and across from the kitchen and I’m so glad we don’t have a formal dining area…we’re pretty informal people!
I would love to have a new kitchen, with new cabinets and appliances, the whole nine yards.
I’ve been saying that for years, too QL, so I’m happy my wish is finally coming true.
Oh I love that bed. So cool. I just moved into a new house so I have been redecorating. I rent so I can’t tear down walls or change fixtures. Any time I move I always change the look of the bedroom. It is a private space that belongs to me. Right now my bedroom is high glamour. Maybe next time I will do something more rustic.
It’s cool you’re adventurous enough to change, Stacie. Once I get something done, I tend to leave it.
my bedroom, and make more space
Love the bed L! I would have to say the closet for me! Since I just got married in June, I took over hubby’s closet and still didn’t have enough room for all my shoes! I am not a cook so my little kitchen is good enough for me
God Love you Shirley, for placing an importance on shoes over cooking! Get that darlin’ hubby of yours to fix up the closet for you…
Congrats on the finishing the guest room and good luck with the kitchen. Speaking of the kitchen, that is the room that I would renovate. Right now, the dishwasher is in an annoying spot making it difficult and time consuming to unload. The whole space probably needs to be reconfigured to make it more user friendly.
We did reconfigure ours a bit to make it flow better, but some things have to stay as is. It’s compromise, right?
Hard choice to chose just one. I have three kids and have given up on having nice things. Keep telling myself once they are older I will be able to get a new coffee table, kitchen table and couch. Markers, cars, pencils, toys, spilled drinks….you get the picture. But, then I think back to my childhood and I shudder. Once they are older I will need to worry about their friends, them throwing parties and OMG, when they have kids I will start my worry all over again. LOL help meeee
If I have to chose just one I would pick my kitchen. It’s where I spend most of my time and where I’m allowed to let my obsession take over. Cock overruns my kitchen, mind out of the gutter people, I’m talking about Roosters. It spills into my living room, but I try to keep it to a minimum and keep it in one room. Started when I first met my husband and found out his last name…Allcock lol too funny. I was out at the store and saw a coffee cup with a giant rooster. Once we got married and I became Mrs Allcock, decided I may as well have fun with it
I would love nothing more than to paint the walls in my kitchen and give it that whole country feel and let my roosters shine
J – hilarious! At first I thought cock was a misspelling – but that makes sense!
Love that bedroom!!! I would want my bathroom redone. I can stick my feet in the tub, sit on the toilet, and wash my hands in the sink at the same time! Plus the door goes into the bathroom and clanks against the toilet everytime.
We had a bathroom like that for YEARS, so I know what you’re saying, Jessi!
Love the headboard! We completely remodeled our kitchen a few years ago. We stripped it down to the studs and started from scratch. It took months, but it looks great.
Since, I’ve already done the kitchen, I think what I’d like to remodel next, and it’s not technically a room, is my backyard. I want to add a deck, a koi pond, and a tiki hut.
That sounds lovely, Jennifer. I’m jealous of people with great landscaping. My yard is full of turkey poop.
Love that bed!! If i could redo any room it would be the bathroom for sure!! I’m gonna hafta try that shot its sound yummy… My stepmom is a bartender I sent the recipe to her to try on her wednesday afternoon regulars. There 4 retired couples who come in try to come up with different drinks every time.
Very cool, Erin! Let me know if they like the shot!
Just curious is the time set on here west coast time?? It’s 4:28 here..
Yeah, it’s west coast time
I can fool myself into thinking I’m running ahead for a change!
Love that headboard and that drink sounds yummy
I would love to redo my bedroom.I have small bookshelves crammed here and there..it just so crowded.I would like a new coat of paint and I want a sleigh bed.
A new coat of paint makes a world of difference. I’ve seen some really cool sleigh beds.
My bedroom could use a makeover.
Another vote for the bedroom!
L- LOVE LOVE LOVE the bed. looks like the bed is sturdy enought for just about ANYTHING!!! Can you ship it to my house in Norfolk, VA????? I would love to redo my bedroom. Would need to add onto the house to make it bigger!
Ship it? Ha, Nancy, nice try. I could barely help hubby get the hefty thing out of the truck.
Love the Bed!!! The colors of the room are very nice also.
I am not sure I could pick one room to redo. However I think I would do the kitchen first. I need to update the colors and bring the room out of the 70′s and into the year 2012.
Ruth
I’m thinking my remodel will encourage my mom to bring her kitchen up to date too
The one room I would do would be my kitchen. All new counters, stove and a dish washer. However I would look that bed in your guest room.
I designed the room around the rustic bed
I would love to remodel the kitchen and get a nice oven and granite countertops.
Jane – we stayed in a condo that had black granite counter tops and I was glad we did BEFORE we ordered stuff for this remodel. Those countertops were impossible to keep clean for five seconds!
Love the new bed so original. I also thought of Ben when I first saw this both him making it and what he would do in!
I wouldn’t mind redecorating my office/library to be somewhere to hang out more instead of just a catch all that it is now.
Brought Ben to mind, eh? You’re not the first one Shannon
The room turned out great. Love they use of color. Mr. Kidd would love a new kitchen since that is his domain. Our house starts with rooms from 1847-1951 so when I inhereted we redid all of the wood floors and painted everything….well it is time to re-do the floors in 8 rooms and paint all of the rooms so that is what I would like to do.
Thanks, Barb, I’m thrilled that everything came together so nicely. Hoping I say the same thing about the kitchen!
I am in love with the wall color, it is georgous!!
It would have to be my bedroom. I even have it all planned out too. As soon as, ok fine–IF the 17 yo graduates next year or I throttle him (whichever comes first) my plan is to tear down the wall between our rooms and finally get my walk-in closet. Now I just have to convince the DH what a completely a great idea it is the HE thought of. I am also loving your guest bed. Maybe the hubs will think of one like that all by himself too
FOUR bathrooms? I have a hard time keeping my one tiny bathroom clean, 4 would probably send me over the edge. We remodeled that last year and nearly came to blows over it, I did get everything I wanted in the end!!
Unfortunately this year will be a partial kitchen redo to repair the ugly leaky ceiling that has ruined the cabinet below.
Oh hell, my hubby and I have words about EVERYTHING, but we get over it — especially sweet when he knows I’m right!
You’re going to have a lot of happy guests! My kitchen is the room that really needs updating, especially need a new fridge.
Someone told my hubby not to post this pic on FB or we’d have guests lined up!
The headboard is fantastic! Your friend is remarkably talented – I just love the rustic, western look. Don’t fret about the wrinkles … you could always use my “iron” of choice – the clothes dryer! Works like a charm! (Planning to enjoy the shot recipe this weekend – Thanks!)
Our friend Mark is talented and so damn knowledgeable about everything, I swear he’s my best source!
Your future guests will love staying in such a cool room! I love red walls. My office, dining room and guest bathroom are all red.
I would love to remodel my master bathroom. White tile and white marble countertops…so boring!!
The previous owners remodeled the kitchen and its pretty fabulous…then they promptly got a divorce and sold the house to us. I’m sorta scared to remodel the bathroom, just in case.
Larri, both couples who lived in this house before us got divorced — we said it’s because they never fixed a damn thing in this place!
Love the bed.
For my own remodel, I would LOVE to redo the closets such that there is a place for everything especially my handbags!!!!
Ooh, a handbag collector, awesome! I swear I might need a new closet just for my boots — yes I said boots, not books!
Luv the bed!!! It is really a work of art. The comforter looks great- well used or enjoyed. Almost finished with ‘Guns and Roses’ , all the stories are great. I will definitely be looking for more from all the different authors.
You’ve got a great room going there, Lori. Think I’d redo my bedroom, or maybe the office, in that western theme, now that you’ve given me the idea! With lots of bookshelves. You can never have enough bookshelves.
Go for the western theme, Sandy!
We did the bathroom a few years back so now the kitchen needs a renovation; it is the original kitchen put in in 1974; the cabinets are ugly, the counters are two distinct different colors, the floor has lost pieces. Horrible!!!
Diane, we found CARPET under the bench in the breakfast nook. Can you imagine having carpet in a kitchen?
I would love to remodel the kitchen and the bathroom would be a close second. I tend towards light color paint but love the dark color.
I used to only do shades of white, but I got bold!
Wow, that’s a fantastic looking bed, lucky you. I don’t really drink, but that drink sounds great. I’ll have to try one sometime. If I could remodel any room, it would be my master bedroom. It needs painting and there’s wallpaper in my bathroom and sink area that desperately needs to come down. I’ve been putting it off because where would I sleep when the fixing up was happening, that’s the question.
My husband has worked the remodel around my deadlines – which is awesome!
Can I go visit?
I wish I had a home… all I’ve got is a rented little flat where I spend all my time in my room. Well, I guess I actually spend all my time in lab like the good little postgraduate student I am… I should just move there & save on rent
Hmm, wait, if I had a home I’d actually be tied down in one place *shudder*. Methinks I’ll just take whatever I’d spend on remodelling and invest in a nice big telly to enjoy videogames. My computer is currently bigger than my telly
See? You talked yourself out of it by the second paragraph – you should be a politician
I would remodel both my bathrooms. They are soooo stuck in the 60′s. Lorelei I love the bed. So here is the deal we will get nice and drunk off the shots and I will fall face first on your new bed. Good plan.
Sounds like a plan to me, Colleen!
If money were no object then I would remodel my kitchen, which was last remodeled twenty years ago.
Well, we might be eating Ramen noodles for a couple of months in our new kitchen
I live in a “garden apartment”, so my bathroom is 1/2 underground – which means it is cold in there from Oct-May – so I would add some insulation and nice cozy rugs, oooohhh, maybe a heated towel rack.
Heated floors!
Love the bed! Cool that it’s one of a kind but I want one like it
If I could remodel any room in the house it would be our bathroom. Our 1922 home is full of great charm but the bathroom could use some help!!
Don’t that call that…old fashioned charm?
Least that’s what our realtor called it when we bought a house built in 1917
Wow what a totally cool headboard. I love it. and the shot sounds good too. If I could remodel any room it would be a toss up between the kitchen and the bathroom. Both rooms I would love to have redone.
I’ll never remodel more than one room at a time — lesson learned!
OMG I want that bed AND that drink! I’ll come visit anytime
You may not be able to get rid of me! Bawahahaha!!!!
If I could remodel any room, it would be the den in the house (not my office.) The den is kind of the catch-all. It was supposed to be for the kids — television, video games, computer, etc. But it’s just a hodge-podge of stuff, no order, lots of toys, and no one wants to go in there!!! I need to completely empty it and re-do it, and I have some ideas, but it’s going to take time and money. TIME more than money (because my ideas are cheap!!! LOL.)
Come stay with me and I’ll take you to Devil’s Tower AND ply you with drinks!
My house is only 4 years old and I am mostly happy with the plan I picked – but you can tell a man designed the laundry room!! Of all the rooms in my house – I would redo the laundry room….sad, but true!!!
Gonna try that shot this weekend!!!
I hope you like the shot, Patty!
Love the bed and the paint color. I think ropes would tie easliy to that headboard. Loved Guns and Roses. All of the stories were great. Thanks!
Thanks for letting us know you loved the stories, J!
K-I-T-C-H-E-N!!!!! Nuff said.
And…another vote for kitchen
Love the bed. Love the paint color.
As far as which room to remodel… I I would just like to get my house finished the first time! We started building in 1985 and have lived in the house while working on it, doing most of the work ourselves. I’ve lived through sleeping on a pile of drywall, having a table saw in the dining room for two years, using a ladder to go between floors, taking a sponge bath in the utility sink, cooking on a camp stove… I could go on and on! I hope someday to be able to say that it’s completed.
Good luck with the kitchen. Except for the bathroom that’s the worst room to try to live without!
Cathy, we had saws on the dining room table for months too. It got so bad we tried to convince the kids the sawdust everywhere was parmesan cheese
sweet headboard! love the carpet! If I could have a room do-over, it’d be the garage – new floor, drywall, TONS of shelving, and enough room to actually put two cars in the freakin’ space! Toodles!
Lynn — that’s the first garage mention!
If you could remodel any room in your house, which one would it be?
My bedroom. It’s very blah and white. I love lots and lots of color and the whiteness is driving me mad.
And I love your new headboard. The wall color is awesome as well.
Like I’ve said, Katie, a coat of color makes a huge difference — go for it in the bedroom
My bathroom, it needs to be bigger ne lol, hot tub too an a tv lol, thanks for the giveaways
Thanks for stopping by, Kim!
I am so unbelievably jealous of that bed!!! I want that headboard so bad!
If I could remodel any room, it would have to be my office. I don’t have enough space. I’d like to have more shelving on my walls to put books on and also a better desk that didn’t come apart when I move it over an inch lol. One day I will have my dream room, one day…
I hope you get that dream office one day, Tiffany
Love that bed, Lori! It looks fantastic and is so unique! Also the colors in the room are gorgeous. Yay for remodels! (You know, other than the inconveniences…)
If I could have any room in the house remodeled… well, considering the basement is all one open space, is it cheating to say that?
Otherwise… the kitchen. Fancy new appliances would definitely be the thing.
I also love that you found a shot called “Tie Me To the Bed!”
Hey Lime, I have a naughtier shot too — Tie Me Down and F*ck Me — it’s tasty
I’d remodel the kitchen. I don’t have enough cupboard space & there is nothing I can about about that with my present set up.
Mary that was my biggest “must have” on this upcoming kitchen remodel. No wasted wall space — all cupboards!
Gorgeous bed! Oddly enough, we spend a lot of time in our living room. At the end of the day, that’s what we call “the lounge” and cocktails are served! No TV, no kitchen, no computer, just us. That’s my next room to re-do – I’m motivated now! xo
Thanks Rocki, I’m glad it motivated you! I’ll expect remodel updates — no pressure
I love the headboard!!!
I want to remodel my bedroom. Horrible purple carpet from the ’70′s, flowery wallpaper that’s coming off the wall, a closet door off it’s hinge, water spots on the ceiling from where the roof leaked before we re-roofed and junk laying everywhere that I have no place to put anywhere else. I want to redo the room with a western theme and I want to get rid of some furniture to make room for bookshelves for all my books (especially the rough riders series!!
)
I love that my books would have a place of honor in your revamped western room
I say do it!
I would defiantly re-do my kitchen! Its a part of the house that overall is used by everyone. And when guests come over its a chill area while we are cooking.
I love your guest room it not to over powering and the color is great. I see a thrown pillow on the ground, was the bed used already could have cause the wrinkled sheets
That’s a great reason for the wrinkles, Seena!
The bed is cool, but the paint color for the bedroom is fantastic. I’m now thinking about that color for my living room. If I could remodel one room, it would be the downstairs family room. It is one hot mess, and NOT just because we are slobs.
I love the phrase one hot mess – even though I hate a mess
I love the bed. Reminds me of a nice vacation home. Your guests will love it. If I could re-do any room in my home, it would be my bedroom. I would make it more comfortable, a place to relax (and other things) after a long day. I would also have to make it a kids free zone. My kids can have the rest of the house, but the bedroom is my space.
Yes, Amy, I definitely think mom and dad need their own private space!
Well I guess I would need a house to have a room to remodel first
I am currently living with my grandparents and helping them out on a daily basis. If I had to pick a room in their house it would either be the kitchen or their bedroom. I am not the greatest cook but with updated appliances and more space I might actuallt try more. And as far as their room is concerned they deserve so much more than they have maybe a nice big bedroom would help them relax at night.
Ali, it is so great you are living with your grandparents and helping them out!
I would love to redo our TV room aka the guest bedroom! We need a new daybed since the current one is now broken, a better TV and to move at least one recliner out of it! We both want to do a western theme and we have some pieces in the room already but we need to finish it. We are procrastinators!
Hey, Angie, I say go for it – haul that stuff out and turn the room into a western paradise
Oh My Goodness, that bed is so neat. . . I can definitely see a McKay character tied to that bed or tying someone instead!! Possibly a McKay character you MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be working right now?? Hee, hee
)
That’s gonna have to be some thick-ass rope!!!
I’ll never…tell about Tell, Michelle – hee hee
My kitchen. Ugh….my kitchen…
Really, Shannon? You sure it’s the kitchen? Ha ha, couldn’t resist.
Lori, the shot was a big hit!!
Erin, I’m happy to hear that!
Wonderful bed! Can’t wait to try the shot. I’d remodel my bedroom–what a mess LOL
The shot seems to be a big hit, CJ
My bedroom- to make the closet bigger
We put in a closet organizer and it made a huge difference!
Very nice website you have here, wish i had one.
Love the picture of your guest bedroom! That headboard is awesome. If I had one room I’d remodel, it would be our master bedroom. Nothing has changed in it in 15 years…except that hubby and I got older
LOL!
Time to mix it up then, Heidi!
It looks great, makes me wish I could be a guest staying in that room. Of coarse if it really was a McKays guest room that would make it all the greater
Ye9TEA Hello! Read the pages not for the first day. Yes, the connection speed is not good. How can I subscribe? I would like to read you in the future!…
Just found this blog, when I updated my Goodreads stuff and I’m excited to join in
Great wall paint color choice in your guest room.
My Husband and I are expecting #3 so I guess we need to finish the basement so the kids can have their play room and we can claim our living room back
