It’s February, the month of romance! Hearts and flowers and chocolate all come to mind (maybe in part because we see those three items EVERYWHERE)! We spend a lot of time figuring out just what to get our sweeties for Valentine’s Day. This year my sweetie ordered something special for me. As a side note he’s the absolute best at cards. No one picks the perfect card like my sweetie. I can’t wait to see what he’ll select this time.
Back to what I’m getting for Valentine’s day. You know we’ve been working on this old house now for about four years. Most of the work has been necessary work like electrical, plumbing, etc. But now we’re getting to the fun parts like decorating and landscaping. For
my birthday, my husband started bookcases in the room we’re calling the library. That’s an ongoing project. Now is the time for outdoor planting in Alabama. He’ll get back to the bookshelves soon. With all the outdoor work, Valentine’s Day presented the right opportunity to get something I’ve always wanted. Flower boxes! One beneath each of the double windows of the second floor on the front of the house would add the final, perfect detail. It took some time but I finally found awesome, affordable window boxes. And here’s the other cool things: they are made of PVC so they won’t ever rot or need painting and they have their own little irrigation system. You fill the little irrigation thingie and that’s it for a week. Since the front of the house faces east I can plant lots of pretty flowers that will be exposed to just the right amount of sun. I cannot wait!
The tulips that were part of my Christmas present are peeking above the mulch. We also planted day lilies among the tulips so that when they go away for the season we’ll still have more beautiful blooms to come. Next on my list are climbing rose bushes. They may have to be early Mother’s Day presents since February and March are the best months to plant. In our driveway currently are pallets of stones that will be stacked around flowerbeds and raised vegetable garden beds and a big pile of mulch for around the shrubs. It’s very exciting! I’ll post pics later in the spring.
On the writing front, I’m moving along with POWER, the next in the Faces of Evil series. I had to take a little break for a while. But I’m back in the groove now. I already have the cover. Check it out! In more news, OBSESSION is now available in trade paperback. IMPULSE will be available in that format late next week. Both OBSESSION and IMPULSE are in the top 100 bestsellers in the Kindle Store and OBSESSION has made the Top 10 Indie Best Sellers for two weeks in a row! I am so proud! Thanks to all of you for helping make that happen! Check out all the great Indie books on that list at www.IndieReader.com!
You know how I love to giveaway great books! Talented author Peggy Webb has a free romance right now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords. Be sure to check out DONOVAN’S ANGEL! It’s the first book in a five book series, Donovan’s of the Delta.
Have you started any new projects, indoors or out? One commenter will win a trade paperback copy of both OBSESSION and IMPULSE!

deb, i love it when you post house and garden pix – so inspiring. I put in lots of white blooms in our pots out front on christmas eve and was just thinking i need to add some pansies. climbing roses are among my favorite – i used to have an entire bank of joseph’s coat – gorgeous. and I am celebrating all your wonderful book success with you!
by Sophie Littlefield February 7th, 2012 at 7:04 amThanks, Sophie! I love, love, love flowers. Tulips and roses are my favorites! The Joseph coat is beautiful! Mine are pinks and reds!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:42 amI’m with Sophie, I love seeing that you can plant stuff now — while I’m looking at white stuff falling from the sky
Congrats on the success of your series!
I’m finishing up a book and then I get back to cowboys
by Lori Armstrong February 7th, 2012 at 7:09 amThanks, Lori! We got almost no white stuff this winter but we’ve been known to get a sudden eight inches in March or April!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:44 amI love reading about all of the progress going on at your home – we always have projects going on or in the planning stages – work in the basement, and currently the need for a new lamp post since our current one (which is original to the house – built back in the mid-50s by my dad) gave up the ghost and just keeled over!
However, the landscaping sounds like lots more fun – although I am not an ambitious gardener at all – I prefer my flowers in pots!
by Felicia M. Ciaudelli February 7th, 2012 at 7:19 amFelicia, how cool that you live in the house your dad built! I wish I had a basement, especially after last year’s storms!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:46 amI do most of my gardening for the clinic I work at. Over the last two years I have slowly added perennials as well as a yellow English rose. When I started there were two half dead bushes and two pots of pasies. I tend to stay with wildflowers as they are hearty and bloom most of the summer. Now I am also going to tackle the back yard where we feed the squirrels and birds. May even try to get a hummingbird garden going. I am inspired by your work on the house and the writing you do.
by Linda February 7th, 2012 at 7:28 amLinda, thank you! We have a ton of squirrels and birds. The trees around this house are more than a century old so the birds love them! Good luck with your gardening!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:47 amLove the photos. The planter boxes sound perfect! I love how they have their own little irrigation system built into them. As for projects, my mine project these days is just finishing up school. I’m in a paralegal program and will finish in April. This is a busy week…lots of assignments due, and a midterm already in one one of my classes. But once I’m done with school, I am thinking of maybe doing a bit of re-decorating around the house. I think it is time for a change. Good luck with all your projects!
by Linda McDonald February 7th, 2012 at 7:43 amWow, Linda! How exciting! Good luck with all your exams and your future redecorating!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:49 amWhat a sweet hubby! I love the flower boxes. So pretty, Deb.
by Laura Griffin February 7th, 2012 at 7:57 amThanks, Laura! They are just what I wanted!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:49 amNo new projects going on here. Its to early to start planting anything here. I need to wait for warmer weather and spring before I get in to anything.
by Quilt Lady February 7th, 2012 at 8:15 amHey Quilt Lady, I know what you mean. We’ve done shrubs and bulbs so far. We’ll have to wait for April to do the flower planting. Some of the vegetables can be planted sooner!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:52 amDeb,
GORGEOUS!!!!!
I WANNA LIVE THERE, TOO!
And yes, flower boxes ROCK! I have some white ones, which I will re-plant with red geraniums.
Thanks or this inspiring post,
xx Josie
by Josie Brown, author, THE HOUSEWIFE ASSASSIN'S HANDBOOK February 7th, 2012 at 8:52 amThanks, Josie! I love geraniums! Especially reds and pinks!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:53 amI just have a balcony so nothing outdoors, but I plan to go through my closets and organize and giveaway clothes. (But then I’ve been saying that for over a year… Sigh.)
Thanks for the heads up on Donovan’s Angel.
by Anne February 7th, 2012 at 9:15 amHey Anne, my older daughter and her husband live in an apartment with a balcony and they have a couple potted plants. This summer when we’re doing all that weeding and watering we’ll be wishing we had just a balcony! Going through closets is another goal of mine!
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:54 amLove the flower boxes! Did you get them online or locally? They sound amazing and easy to maintain. I too am jealous that you can plant things now. Everything here is either frozen or dead. We’ve had minimal snow this year so the landscape is all brown and yucky. Can’t wait to plant something pretty again. Although I do have to say I am totally jealous of your green thumb! I tend to kill things off without meaning to.
Congrats on the success of your books! I’ve read Obsession and I’m moving on to Impulse. This is the only genre my mom and I have in common so I’d love for her to read them as well! Keeping my fingers crossed that I win the trade copies because she REFUSES to read anything not paper!
by Heather E February 7th, 2012 at 9:24 amLOL, Heather! Your mom sounds awesome! We’re limited to shrubs and bulbs this time of year. The flower boxes were on line at http://www.flowerwindowboxes.com
by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 9:57 amI. Love. Your. House! Where do y’all get the energy? I wish you’d bottle it and sell me some.
Glad you are back to work on the next book, too. Yay!
by Silver James February 7th, 2012 at 11:22 amThis is an absolutely beautiful home Debra. I especially find the flower window boxes lovely!
by Janet Kerr February 7th, 2012 at 11:30 amMy project is finishing my crime thriller, I’m revising it, after many years of illness. During this time I got my hands on every craft book I could.
I would absolutely love to win your books.
Thanks so much,

My project for February is the TBR closet. Yes, I don’t have a TBR pile, I have a whole bookcase in a closet with books from conferences, signings, and buying. At least the ones on my Nook are hidden! LOL!!

by Debra Webb February 7th, 2012 at 3:04 pmNo. no new projects lately; the lack of funds is holding us back for now. But our kitchen, 40 years old, has to be renovated and is next on our list.
