No, you didn’t sleep through an entire day, Rocki and I switched days this week because she’s got a really fabulous blog planned for tomorrow so stay tuned!
Me? Not so much with the fab blog. I got nothin’. I’ve been staring at the blinking cursor for the better part of ten minutes…feeling guilty that I should be upstairs working until the wee small hours on my book that is officially late, and not freaking out about not having a barn burner of a blog topic for you all this week.
So, I thought about chatting about new TV shows, winners, losers, must sees, and have beens…then I remembered we might be doing a group blog topic on that next week.
Then I decided I could talk about heading to Laramie, WY on Wed. (the reason for the blog day switch) to see my oldest daughter get awarded a nursing school scholarship — cool huh? — and how we have to make the trip in one day — 5 hours each way — because Simon and Schuster is sending me to Midwest Booksellers Association conference in Minneapolis on Thursday. On Friday I’ll be lunching with booksellers from the Midwest and on Saturday I’ll be signing ARCs of MERCY KILL.
I also considered talking about the fall weather, which is gorgeous in western South Dakota this time of year. The leaves are turning, the air is crisp, the sky is so blue, the harvest moon so full, it’s really like a postcard and a beautiful reminder of why I love to live here. I thought about writing a fall poem, as I do every year, being inspired by the shades of gold, oranges and red, then I remembered I am so far from a poet that it ain’t funny…insert your favorite Longfellow joke here
I wondered if I should reminisce about high school Homecoming, as my youngest daughter is a freshman this year and will be attending coronation, the bonfire, the football game, and the dance for the first time at my alma mater…but I don’t honestly remember Homecoming. Seriously. Well, one I do, but I would get in so much trouble if I shared that particular story.
I weighed the pros and cons of discussing my WIP, but I’m one of those freaky writers who has a “jinx” complex, so whether the book is going shitty or swimmingly…I don’t like to talk about it. And wow, that makes for such great conversations with editors.
I decided I would whine about the fact my middle daughter has MORE FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK THAN I DO. I also decided to beg….please please please, friend me on Facebook, so I can totally rub it in my daughter’s face that I have more friends than her — hee hee — kidding, but…not really. Pathetic, I know, right? Even more pathetic? I’m adding the link here. Seriously: Lorelei James Facebook page –
Oh, and since I’m two people, here’s another: Lori Armstrong Facebook page
I had started an entire post about penguins…I know, STOP SNORING, that I scrapped, lucky for you all, huh?
So, tell me your favorite thing about fall that does NOT have to do with pumpkins, because I hate pumpkins. Creepy bastards. And their guts taste like crap too, yes, that includes pumpkin pies, muffins, bread and who in the HELL decided pumpkin would taste good in…BEER?
A random commenter will win a signed copy of one of my books, any of my books, Lori Armstrong or Lorelei James — thanks for reading to the bottom of the page

I like the clear skies and green of fall here in South Texas (we’ve had a ton of rain this month so everything’s all green right now). I like the slight nip in the air and coming home at night and putting on a pair of warm flannel pj’s. I also like the thought of snuggling up in my flannel while watching ‘Hawaii Five-O’ this season.
by MicheleKS September 28th, 2010 at 6:59 amMichele, I’ve heard good things about Hawaii Five-O — and good for you for rain in TX! We could use some.
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:10 amyou sure ended up with alot of nothin’ in your blog.
by kris September 28th, 2010 at 7:46 ambut, I realized I hadn’t “liked” your Lori Armstrong FB page, so you’re now one step closer to beating middle’s number of friends!
on that note, it is freakin’ sad that my 8 year old has a much more active social life than I do. I’m sure if she had a FB page, her number of friends would be exponentially greater than whatever I could hope to achieve!! (so, I’m totally sympathetic!!)
Thanks, Kris, for liking me — sounds strange, huh?
I’m glad I’m not the only one with kids who lead more interesting lives than me…
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:11 am[...] I GOT NOTHING blog post [...]
by I was… | September 28th, 2010 at 7:47 amI got nothin really for what I like about fall…’cept for maybe the trip to the apple orchard for some honeycrisps…
I was thinking about our homecoming too, when I took my boys to the homecoming game here last week. Dug out my yearbook for all to see…{I would LOVE to hear your homecoming story…I have some vague glimpses of homecoming stored up in the recessses of my brain.
I’m off to stir soap…
by Erin Nelson September 28th, 2010 at 8:07 amLooking forward to your upcoming books Lori.
xo
OMIGOD I cannot WAIT for honeycrisps. I love those apples so much its embarrassing…they have orchards of them in eastern SD?
I’m glad that I’m not the only one drawing blanks on our h.s. prom years, Erin
and I think I lost my yearbook on purpose…
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:13 amI have never heard of honeycrisps any chance one of you lovely lades could tell me what they are because it sounds good, has a great name and involves apples!
Thanks
by Miranda September 28th, 2010 at 11:02 amMiranda
Miranda, honeycrisps are apples that were developed specifically for colder climes, so they tend to be harvested later than other apples.
As for taste, oy, the skin is lightly marbled from red with green and gold, firm yellowish flesh, sweet, tangy, man, I am not kidding you that these are the best apples in the world.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:06 pmWow they do sound amazing! I would love to try those! Thanks!
by Miranda September 28th, 2010 at 2:08 pmI only got into facebook & myspace so I could keep up with my daughters…but then it became a competition…now I just have to except that fact that I am not as popular as my kids are…sad being the old mother….would not trade any of my kids for nothing
by Chele September 28th, 2010 at 8:09 amChele, I know kids who *won’t* friend their parents on Facebook….I think that’s worse!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:44 amMy mom has 130+ more friends than I do..I’m like really mom, do you know all these people?????? It’s crazy!!
As for fall…I like the weather. I’m not a summer person or a winter person. I like the in between times.
by Jennifer Lubow September 28th, 2010 at 8:16 amJennifer, my daughter who’s in Mobile keeps waiting for the weather to change to the fabulous cool weather we have here…me thinks it’ll be a long wait for her!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:45 amI am in Mobile and we have had one week of consistent fall weather! This is my favorite weather too. It’s just perfect weather.
by Katherine October 9th, 2010 at 11:48 pmThanks for commenting Jennifer, but I gotta root for your mom having so many friends
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:07 pmLOL, that was the best nothing post I’ve read. I friended both of you. You’ll beat your daughter’s number in no time. =o)
Fall in eastern CO doesn’t inspire me, so I’ll just talk about fall back home in Michigan. When the trees change colors, it’s like they’re creating a whole new palette. And the apples are all so yummy. And of course, the smell in the air – it’s so crisp and when the first frost comes, the chill tingles in your nose. :happy sigh:
And Fall means it’s finally cool enough to bake again. Now I can make all those… not pumpkin… things I was waiting for. ;o)
by B.E. Sanderson September 28th, 2010 at 8:24 amThank you, B.E.
And your description of fall was much better than mine!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:46 amMy favorite thing about fall is football (Geaux Tigers!) My second fav is that we actually get some nice, bearable weather. Today the high will be 83, and there’s low humidity! Don’t laugh–in south Texas, that’s something special.
Sorry about the Facebook thing. I don’t do that at all; if I did, I would certainly friend you.
by GSM September 28th, 2010 at 8:44 am83? Oh man. I’d melt. Seriously.
I do love sitting in the hot tub, especially in the fall…
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:47 amMy favorite thing about fall is that for the first time in about 30+ years, I get to HAVE FALL. I’m watching the aspens change color from my window. I’m enjoying having different daylight hours. I’m enjoying cool mornings and evenings, and bundling under the covers at night.
Terry
by Terry Odell September 28th, 2010 at 8:46 amTerry’s Place
Romance with a Twist–of Mystery
Aren’t the aspens something, Terry? Go glad you’re enjoying the change of seasons, I don’t know if I could live without it…
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 9:14 amI love fall. We’re finally getting a break from the nineties temperatures…
Good luck on the book!!
by Laura Griffin September 28th, 2010 at 8:49 amAnother Texas gal who’s mentioned the suddenly “Low” temps in TX…how you guys do those high temps year round boggles my mind.
I’m plugging away, Laura.
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 9:15 amHome made chili, smell of burning leaves, picking up pecans, making apple pie, sensing a food theme her? Plus, I love temperatures being under three digits, even under ninety.
by Carol Shenold September 28th, 2010 at 9:06 amPecans? (Ears perk up) I hate pumpkin but I LOVE me some pecans. SO jealous, Carol.
I’ve already made chili and soup twice in the last week. I cook much better in the cooler temps than when it’s warm.
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 9:18 amI “liked” you, you’re up to 756.
I like penguins. A short post about them with pics would have been different, especially for this blog.
I like the cooler weather the fall brings the Chicago area. I am not a hot weather lover at all.
by Anne September 28th, 2010 at 9:26 amThanks, Anne!
I’ll save the penguin post for another time
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 9:29 amLOL! I added one more to your FB page.
Fall is my favorite time of the year, hands down. I love the feel of the cool crisp air, the smell of wood burning fireplaces, and the changing of the leaves. Something about all that makes me so happy. I even love the shorter days . I am about 90 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and as soon as the leaves peak, roadtrip! I also don’t do pumpkin as food.
by Sharon S. September 28th, 2010 at 9:39 amThanks, Sharon
The leaves are peaking here this week in Spearfish Canyon, which is a gorgeous place, but sadly, I have to hear about the glory second hand…
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 9:41 amFall is when I start wishing for an very long Indian summer. I hate the cold and fall means the cold is just around the corner. Which means I no longer ride the Harley (Billy rides year round but I’m a whimp.). It means my feet stay cold all day while I’m at work because this silly trailer has next to no insulation and the post office won’t get me a building.
Okay, there are things in the fall I do like. I love watching the farmers where I work handle the big draft horses, sometimes up to 6 at a time, plowing the fields or haying. I love seeing the mums are they are so colorful. The county fair is another fantastic event as well as the Blessing of the Fleet.
And I friended you on facebook a while back but I got my daughter to friend you and I mentioned it to Billy.
Terri
by Terri September 28th, 2010 at 9:49 amTerri, there are still TONS of bikers out and about because it is so gorgeous.
Hope Billy is safe on his new bike
Thanks for spreading the Facebook love!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:09 pmHey! My favorite thing about fall in Savannah, GA is that the temp if finally cooling off. And by cooling off, I mean today it is only going to be 85*! Seriously, I miss the fall in the midwest, I really do. Until, it starts snowing and doesn’t stop.
by Sarah September 28th, 2010 at 9:56 amI can’t wait for the next Rough Riders. Oh, and I loved Correlled!
Sarah, I’ve only been to Savannah once and I loved it, well except for the humidity but I hope to go back some day soon.
Happy you’re enjoying the Rough Riders and you liked Corralled
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:12 pmLori, The Only asked me to pass along her thanks for recommending Prairie Edge to her. She spent almost an hour talking to one of the Sioux clerks, bought several hanks of beads for a project, an awesome bolo for her dad, and insists now that she and Baseball Boy (her fiancé) are headed back there next summer to see more of the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, and…yes, Prairie Edge!
Headed to Facebook now. I really don’t like FB, even though I have a fan page there now. I always forget to check it. *blush* And yes, I had to get The Only to set it up for me. LOL!
Safe travels!
by Silver James September 28th, 2010 at 9:58 amI’m so glad she loved it, Silver. My daughter worked there for 2 years and I had to purposely stay out of there or I would’ve gone broke…
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:13 pmNo kidding! Hanging out there would put a serious dent in anyone’s budget. But man, I’m jealous. Did your DD get an employee discount?
by Silver James September 28th, 2010 at 1:42 pmYes, she did, on certain things, and I got great gifts from her
I was waiting for an artist I admire to put out a new original work and she called me right away when his new pieces came in and I snapped them up. Full retail price, but totally worth it!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:54 pmCrap. I forgot to mention fall. *headdesk* I love this time of year–the heat and lethargy of summer bleeds away and is staunched by the crisp, cool days of autumn, giving me new energy and resolve to get back to work.
by Silver James September 28th, 2010 at 10:00 amLovely description of autumn, Silver!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:13 pmMy favorite thing about fall is the cooler weather because it is super hot in Davis during the summer, making me always feel lazy! I “liked” your Facebook pages, so I hope you get a huge following!
by Jeanette Juan September 28th, 2010 at 10:10 amThanks, Jeanette! Cooler weather seems to be a theme today…
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:14 pmUnlike my daughters and most of the known universe I don’t FB — but if I did, for sure I’d “like” you on both your pages, because both those personas produce awesome books! As for the fall — I’m always sad to see the summer go, winter in central Ontario is just long and nasty. But I love being able to get back to cooking winter comfort food (apple blackberry crumble – yum!) and the markets are full of gorgeous fruit and vegetables. And fall, because of the back to school thing, still seems more the time for optimism and new beginnings than New Year’s does.
by Frannie September 28th, 2010 at 10:13 amI agree, Frannie, I set my goals by the school calendar, not the New Year’s calendar…I seem to be more productive that way.
I love me some comfort food…I wonder if my mom would make me a pie if I asked her – hee hee
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:15 pmFall reminds me of high school football. Me and my girlfriends sitting in the stands cheering and watching those hot, sweaty football players with their tight butts bent over and running around. I love it when those big muscular guys get in a huddle and hold hands…it just turns me on.
by Paige September 28th, 2010 at 10:20 amBack in the day…of course…something like 1985.
by Paige September 28th, 2010 at 10:31 amPaige, wow, we like football for the same reason!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:16 pmI like apples , and mushrooms. Forest walks.
Most of all, I like that there are still a couple of nice days left, before November is here, with its rain and gloom.
by Mikaela September 28th, 2010 at 10:22 amIt seems gloomiest here in January, Mikaela, and I miss having time to walk in the woods.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:17 pmCool weather!!! As an AZ resident I’ll probably be waiting until the end of Fall for that to actually happen, but the begining of Fall at least gives hope for relief to come. : )
by Lindsey September 28th, 2010 at 10:37 amLindsey, I love to visit Arizona…in January
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:17 pmLoreli,
You seriously crack me up, you have nothing and you right a lot! Guess that’s why you are a writer, huh?
Sunday a week ago my hubby and I left for a Caribbean cruise, it was 97 degrees the day we left Texas for Florida. We got home to Texas on Sunday night and it was 55 degrees. Guess it’s fall now…that will probably last a week and then we’ll go back to summer weather or straight into winter. Never can tell here.
On that note, I spent the entire cruise re-reading the Rough Rider series on my new Kindle 3. Man, I love that toy!
As for Facebook, I don’t have a lot of friends but that’s by choice. I have something like 50 friends requests I keep ignoring.
Congrats to your daughter and safe travels this week!
by Sharon September 28th, 2010 at 10:41 amSharon
Thanks, Sharon, and I’m so jealous about the cruise. Glad you got some reading time in though
I won’t get to stare out the window at my beloved WY landscape on the road tomorrow, I’ll be staring at my laptop. Sigh.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:19 pmYou know what? I’d be pretty competitive if my mom had more friends on Facebook than I do — even if she were a public person — I mean, it’s my MOM. And… she’s catching up fast. She’s been a professor for twenty years now, so, she KNOWS a lot of people. Lucky for me, I went to a REALLY BIG school — like, 1000 people in my graduating class — and it seems everyone’s getting a FB page now (yeah, it took years for it to be popular in Brazil), so, I’ve been getting Friend Requests like crazy.
Actually, that’s led to a FB problem. I post everything in English — because when I started using FB, it was only my internation friends. But, now, most of my page speaks Portuguese as a first language… I’ve had people saying I’m smug because I write in a foreign language. I don’t know what to do with that. I thought about creating an alternate page, but I wouldn’t be good at managing those.
Best thing about fall? New seasons of the TV shows, duh! So good to have’m back!!! If you’re in the US (which, this year, I’ll be for a few days) HALLOWEEN CANDY. Wait, does this count as pumpkin related? :/
by Barbie September 28th, 2010 at 10:42 amNo, I love halloween candy, Barbie, oddly enough, those little pumpkins that taste like candy corn are a fave.
I’m sorry you’re having issues with Facebook, and I think it’s awesome you’re fluent in English and if I could pick a language to learn, it’d be Porteguese, it is so sexy sounding.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:21 pmI love the arrival of Fall because that is when football season starts! tWarner419@aol.com
by Teresa W. September 28th, 2010 at 10:42 amTeresa, darlin’, I’m betting you’re from down south!
It amazes me how much folks love their football down there. I can’t tell you how many times I heard “Roll Tide!” when we were dropping our daughter off at college in Alabama…
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:22 pmI love watching the changing colors of the leaves on the trees, the cooler weather so we can sleep at night, the kids back in school and more books on the shelves since we are coming to Christmas.
by Diane Sadler September 28th, 2010 at 11:00 amDiane, its such a simple thing, but I love having my windows open at night.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:23 pmI love the smell of fall. Its almost like the way it smells after it rains. Everything smells and feels fresh and new. It always re-energizes me makes me feel like I can accomplish anything. I can’t believe there is pumpkin beer that’s disturbing.
by Miranda September 28th, 2010 at 11:00 amMiranda, I think Sam Adams makes pumpkin beer. I tried it, unknowingly at one point, and I blocked the traumatic experience from my memories
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:24 pmi “liked” you on facebook
by REGINA ROSS September 28th, 2010 at 11:03 ammy fav thing about fall is when the leaves on the trees change color, its really pretty.
Me too Regina, there’s a red vine that is just stunning that’s so vibrant in the ditches this time of year.
Thanks for liking me
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:25 pmI am no pumpkin fan either and neither is my mother. A few years ago we decided not to include it in the Thanksgiving dinner since the year before only one piece was eaten and then it laguished in one of our refrigerators until it had to be thrown out. Well, what a fuss everyone made. We LOVE pumpkin pie was the cry. How could you eliminate it from THANKSGIVING DINNER??? Well, it’s back but everyone has been warned that they had better eat it or lose it.
by Maureen September 28th, 2010 at 11:05 amMy favorite part of fall are the moderate temperatures and open windows.
Maureen, I think it’s one of those “but it’s tradition!” things with certain foods. No one really likes to eat it, as in pickled beets or something, but it has to be around or guests will cry foul.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:26 pmThe leaves changing colors has got to be my favorite part of Fall. During Fall, I burn more candles in the house.
It is rainy today so I’m burning Hazelnut, one of my favorites.
Good luck w/ everything you have to do.
by HollyD September 28th, 2010 at 11:16 amThanks Holly
the candle I’m burning right now is lilac dreams…which reminds me of spring.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:27 pmFall is my favorite time of year. I love it when the leaves all start turning, and falling to the ground so you have to rake them up. The ragweed is out so my allergies are killing me, ah, the joy of fall. But seriously, it is my favorite season.
by Linda Henderson September 28th, 2010 at 11:20 amLinda, we used to spend all weekend raking leaves at our old house. Now we have pine needles which isn’t much better, but we just let them fall where they may!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:28 pmI love fall its my favorite time of the year the weather is great the leaves are BEAUTIFUL
by Sandy B. September 28th, 2010 at 11:22 amYep, Sandy, every fall I am stunned by the variation in colors

catherine
by catherine September 28th, 2010 at 11:25 amCatherine, I imagine it was a shock from NY to TX…it was a shock for me and we only lived there a year or so.
I’m happy happy you’re enjoying the Rough Rider books, and just think, you’re almost caught up!
I remember taking my kids to fall festival stuff and they loved it, so do it!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:30 pmyea i know i love this series soo much, its sooo addicting. i mean the way u tell each stories and how they connect w. the mckay family and there spouse. i cant wait to read ur other books to, thank goodness u wrote alot of books b.c i would be lost lol. i do have other books that i am reading but i put them off till i get threw all of ur books b,c i know that im going to love it and addicted to it.

by catherine September 28th, 2010 at 4:27 pmI love baking in fall. It is cool enough to do so again after the heat of summer makes even the idea of baking uncomfortable to me.
by Little Lamb Lost September 28th, 2010 at 11:26 amI like to bake too, the problem is I only bake what I like and then I eat it all. Sigh.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:31 pmi love fall its my favorite time of the year the weather is great and the leaves are BEAUTIFUL!
by Sandy B. September 28th, 2010 at 11:28 amhmm…well I live in South Florida– and as fall rolls in we get a little cooler weather, enough so we begin to notice it; and hints of that ocean breeze which come full out winter, makes our weather so fabulous and every single winter, that alone fills me with gratitude that I live here;
so fall for us is a tantalizing tease of the winter enjoyment that’s well on it’s way
by chris September 28th, 2010 at 11:29 amChris, I have a friend who lives in South Florida who sends me beach pictures in January and bitches about it being cold…70. I’d mail him a snowball if I thought it’d make there without melting!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:32 pmIt can be fun sitting on the beaches at Christmas. Running around in shorts & t-shirts. In fact, I did not have to buy my kids new winter jackets last year. Their jackets were a little small, but it was hardly ever cold enough for them to need the heavy coats. Usually, they just wore sweaters.
Fall is my favorite season for many reasons and one of the bigggest reasons is the return of the SEC!!!!
by Katherine October 10th, 2010 at 12:01 amFall – being from Texas – Fall means “Friday Night Lights” (High School Football). This Fall is especially emotional for me, my daughter is a Senior and the Colonel of the HS Dance Team. she’s either been on the cheer squad or the dance team since 7th grade.
It’s hard to believe that this is my last year of “Friday Night Lights”. Next year I get to be a 40 yr old Single Mom of a Pre-Nursing student. Might start hitting the Rodeo Circuit…Mesquite is just a few hours away. Maybe become a “Buckle Cougar”
I am about 1/2 between Houston and Galveston, so I don’t see much of a change of season, until “winter”, then everything goes from green and lush to dead and bare, overnight. However, right now it is in the high 70′s and perfect for taking a walk along the beach or riding horses.
by Dawn September 28th, 2010 at 11:34 amCongrats to your daughter, Dawn! My daughter is in her first year of cheering on the JV football team and she loves it.
Friday Night Lights is one of the best TV shows of all time.
Thanks for commenting!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:33 pmI ‘liked’ you/LJ on FB before this post! =)
I love Fall. It makes me feel more energetic. Must be the crisp air.
I’ve been meaning to ask…do your Lori Armstrong books have romance in them?
by Scorpio M. September 28th, 2010 at 11:51 amScorpio, thanks for liking me == sounds strange to say.
There is a thread of romance in the mystery, as in Julie is in a relationship starting with the second book. Same with the Mercy books. I can’t not write about romantic relationships, but they are secondary to the main character’s “growth” and the mystery plot. So I wouldn’t even call them romantic suspense…
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:35 pmOkay first pumpkin beer? Yuck! I can’t even think about drinking beer as it is let alone with additional creepy flavor. I’m a Jack & Coke kind of girl.
Favorite thing about Fall…. the cooler weather. I can keep the house open day and night and its all fabulous.
by Brandy W September 28th, 2010 at 11:57 amI know, gross, right? I’m still traumatized.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:36 pmLori, I friended you because I love your books and you must beat your daughter! Its’ a mom thing
I’m still laughing about your pumpkin issues…
The first thought about what I like about fall–caramel apples. Which is pretty funny because I haven’t had one in years.
by Jen Lyon September 28th, 2010 at 12:11 pmPower to the moms, yay! Thanks for friending me, Jen.
I plan to make a batch of caramel apples this fall…or I’ll buy that ready made caramel to dip the apples in, when I feel guilty for not doing any fun fall “food” stuff.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:37 pmMy favorite thing is the COOL WEATHER!! Gah. I hate the heat!
by Chelsea B. September 28th, 2010 at 1:14 pmChelsea, I think cooler weather is winning across the board!
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:37 pmMy favorite thing about fall…the kids are in school. No, that’s not nice! I know you said no pumpkins but…My husband takes the kids to go pumpkin picking. That always takes hours. No, that not nice either! Honestly, fall is beautiful on the east coast. I love the changing colors and the slightly overcast skies (I am part vampire…total sun allergy!). The light, cool breezes. Then winter hits and bam…it’s all over.
by Jen B. September 28th, 2010 at 1:18 pmJen, you know, I like to THROW pumpkins and watch them go splat. It’s a sickness. I know.
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:52 pmYou should come to Delaware after Halloween. Our state hosts an annual Punkin-Chunkin’ contest! There are all kinds of prizes and even some scholarships! I have never been able to go but we are going to try again this year. Everyone I know who has attended or competed said it was a hoot!
by Jen B. September 28th, 2010 at 6:11 pmMy favorite things about fall are the leaves changing colors and making comfort foods like soups and chili.
by CrystalGB September 28th, 2010 at 1:36 pmMe too, Crystal, but I’ve gotta admit, I almost barfed when I read a recipe for…you guessed it…pumpkin soup.
by Lori G. Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:38 pmWow, that’s a lot of words for “I got nothing.”
And your whining worked, I’ve liked both of you. My favourite thing about fall is the weather. Cool in the evenings, still nice during the day, bliss!
by Zita September 28th, 2010 at 1:51 pmZita, yeah, I’m wordy even with nothin, huh? Thanks for friending whiny me :0
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 1:53 pmThe best thing about fall is it’s not winter. I hate winter; I hate the cold. The leaves look pretty for a short time, but then they fall off. Not so pretty. I do love the return of football. I don’t like that the kids go back to school. I miss them. I do love that there are no more reruns and the shows start up again. That’s it. I’m a spring/summer person and I live in Rhode Island, go figure.
by Sharon D September 28th, 2010 at 1:59 pmI’m with you on having new TV shows start up and the no fun spending every freakin’ weekend raking leaves, Sharon!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:00 pm*snort* I’ve known anyone that hated pumpkins. BAHAHAHAHAHA Okay, I’m done laughing at you now– congrats to your daughter– my son is a senior this year and I’ve decided the college stuff is going to make my head explode. It didn’t seem this complicated when I was his age. Oh wait– he’s smart and has a 4.0, I was….distracted.
Fall– I love the colors–I’m in Michigan and we have some serious fall colors here. Plus it smells fresh like fall when I take walks and the leaves crunch under my feet.
As far as facebook– I have a 16 and 17 year old. I couldn’t hope to even come close to the number of friends they have, but then again, I also don’t have the drama they do:)
by Moonsanity (Brenda) September 28th, 2010 at 2:03 pmI can do without the Facebook drama, Brenda, which is why I’ve kept my fan pages…but still, I have this need to do the neener neener dance for some reason…
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:01 pmI love the fact that I don’t start sweating the second I step outside from the humidity. I live outside Houston and pray for colder winters every year. I grew up in Alaska and Nebraska, as well as Alabama, so I really came to appreciate SEASONS!!
by Amy A September 28th, 2010 at 2:23 pmAmy, I think I could handle living in Nebraska but Alaska? No way.
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:03 pmLol, Lori! I recently removed myself from facebook. It’s a change of pace and I kinda like it (knocks on wood – watch, I’ll be logging back on in a few days, ha).
Hmm, well my favorite thing about this season is…the changing leaves on trees.
by OmNe September 28th, 2010 at 2:23 pmI’ve had a quite a few people tell me they’re taking a break from Facebook, and I’m like cool…right after you friend me, right?
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:03 pmHello,
There are so many things I love about the fall – it is my favorite season BUT the best thing is football!! I love sports and there is nothing like a lazy Sunday spent screaming at the TV because the NY Giants can’t get their act together and eating lots of yummy (but crappy for me) food.
by Jennifer D. September 28th, 2010 at 2:27 pmYou’re a GIANTS fan, Jennifer? For shame.
Kidding. I used to watch football, and I rooted for the Buffalo Bills all the way
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:06 pmi’m zipping over to friend you RIGHT THIS MINUTE!
I’ll get julie too also xo
by Sophie Littlefield September 28th, 2010 at 3:22 pmThanks, Sophie, can’t wait to friend you guys in person in San Fran!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:04 pmSorry, I’m not a fall lover. I’d rather do spring or summer. I don’ t like winter either. OK, so I’m strange. One good thing is getting the calves sold. The beautiful colors of fall, but not much else. You have to put up with Wasps and box elder bugs, gross…
by Tiss September 28th, 2010 at 3:25 pmI just like hearing about your family. The girls.
Drive Safe on your trip to WY. and yes, I’m a friend on facebook, both places. Good luck with that.
Thanks Tiss, and even if you’re not a fall lover, you’ve gotta admit, it’s been some seriously gorgeous weather here the last week or so…
Congrats on selling the calves and the horses!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:05 pmThe only thing pumpkins are good for is jack o’lanterns. My favorite thing about fall is the weather and Halloween. I love decorating and baking during this time of year. Also since the weather is getting cooler I get to break out the hot chocolate!
by Ladytink_534 September 28th, 2010 at 3:28 pmI like to carve pumpkins, and then shove them off the deck and watch the deer devour them. Heh. I know, simple pleasures.
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:07 pmWhen I say the friend thing on the yahoo group email I thought you were kidding but since your not I will shoot over there shortly to give you some love.
As for fall I love Thanksgiving turkey, the leaves turning on the maple trees in my yard, hot chocolate with the kids, and freezing my butt off taking the offspring, in their goofy outfits, out for Hallowe’en. I love Fall it is my favorite.
by Rory G September 28th, 2010 at 3:53 pmRory, I won’t have to come up with any halloween costumes this year for the first time in over 20 years…enjoy it!
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 5:07 pmOOOOHHhhhhhhh, Lori. Holy Unholy homecoming. I’d successfully blocked that week – along with most of senior year, and now you bring it all back. actually, I have this urge to burst into laughter right now. Remember modeling for Paul whats-his-name in our “punk rock” gear? I still have some of those pictures somewhere, you know. It’s amazing any black eye liner remained on earth after we got ready for school. And then…there was Toga Day. And that’s all I’ll say about that. Miss you, old friend!
by Tove September 28th, 2010 at 5:47 pmMiss you too — and yes, I remember part of toga day…and punk rock day…we looked awesome baby.
Know what’s sad, T? They now have 80′s day as a spirit day. Yeah, we’re officially old.
Thanks for popping by and stirring up those old memories
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:24 pmFall, what’s fall?? LOL, I haven’t been able to enjoy fall in three years now. We live in California and where we live, we get 2 seasons, spring and summer. We are still in our summer phase right now. I’m from eastern Washington and I really miss having all the seasons. It’s normal to the people who live here, but it’s hard to make it feel like Thanksgiving when it’s bright, sunny and warm out. I’m not use to that, we usually get our first day of snow on Thanksgiving in Washington and every day is overcast. So, I will talk about what I miss. I miss the leaves turning, and the cool chill in the air. I miss breaking out the kids’s jackets, the smell of pumpkin spice and most of all I miss family. Fall here makes me realize that holiday’s are coming up and the pass’s from here to Washington are about ready to be covered in snow, meaning a drive home would be crazy and 5 plane tickets insane. So, I gear up for more holiday’s of silently cursing my husband
wink wink (I love the man like crazy) for moving me down here and missing home
by Jolene Allcock September 28th, 2010 at 6:06 pmAw, Jolene, by your great description you really do miss it — and the last few years we haven’t had snow on Thanksgiving either.
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:26 pmI don’t really have anything interesting to say, but a nursing scholarship is way awesome!!! I work in healthcare and its a wonderful career. I know all of the nurses I’ve worked with over the years have been wonderful and they sometimes don’t get the credit they deserve.
As far as your books go. Branded as trouble was the first one I read and then realized it was a series. So of course I started at the beginning and love them all. Rough, Raw and Ready and Shoulda Been a Cowboy were my faves. I think because the stories were so emotional.
Can’t wait for the rest of the series. And the next in The Blacktop Cowboys Series.
by Rachel Riddles September 28th, 2010 at 7:50 pmThanks, Rachel! My daughter is thrilled with the scholarship and she’s already an excellent, caring CNA so I know she’ll make a great RN.
And a high five on loving the Rough Riders series! Thanks for letting me know. Cowgirls Don’t Cry will hit in that “emotional” realm too..
by Lori Armstrong September 28th, 2010 at 8:28 pmFall is the time for apple picking and apple cider. I also love the cool comfortable weather.
by Jane September 28th, 2010 at 9:29 pmMmm…Jane, apple cider
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:42 amI love the nice cool weather and the crisp fresh air. I also love that it’s time for the new shows.
by Sherry S. September 28th, 2010 at 9:54 pmSherry, I had a Freudian slip when I read your comment, I thought it said a good time for new shoes
Guess what’s on my mind?
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:43 amI’m with ya, I got nothin either. Just going with the flow-where’s my next book to read! I’m obsesses. Oh, by the way-I friended you on facebook. Good luck with the numbers!
by Elizabeth C September 28th, 2010 at 9:59 pmThank you Elizabeth for friending me!
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:43 amI love the cooler weather in the fall! Going out and taking nice long walks and taking in the leaves on the trees changing colors. Its a beautiful time of the year!
by Quilt Lady September 28th, 2010 at 10:03 pmI don’t get to take as many walks as I like, especially while I’m under deadline, but I do look out the window at the leaves.
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:44 amI totally <3 you!!! Can't wait for Slow Ride…….I'm totally reading Raising Kane again. I looooove this book!
by Ashley T September 28th, 2010 at 10:19 pmAw, thanks Ashley. I can’t wait for it to come out either!
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:44 amYep, that’s the way to reel ‘em in, Armstrong. Promise ‘em a great sex book with great violence in it, or a great violence book with great sex in it.
Well, actually, considering how many have commented here, I guess it worked, so I’ll say that my favorite part of fall is college football, because I get to see my Dad’s side of my family more often when we tailgate. The games are great and all, but I love the family time the most.
Miss seeing you guys over at FOs.
by Jake Nantz September 28th, 2010 at 10:57 pmJake! Buddy, what’s shaking? And how did I know YOU were gonna say football?
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:46 amWhen I was growing up in Indiana my favorite thing about the fall was the leaves changing color, all the bonfires, and sitting on the porch swing at night listening to mother nature. I loved the cooler nights and the smells in the air. The air always smelled purer, cleaner somehow. Fall was always my favorite season. Now that I live on the Gulf Coast, I don’t really have a fall. It is one thing i really miss. The snow I can live without, but the fall I miss.
by Nikki C. September 29th, 2010 at 1:34 amNikki, my daughter is living on the Gulf Coast too and she keeps wondering when it’ll get cooler….
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:46 amMy favorite thing about fall is the clothes and the air. I just love the fall air. Crisp, cool but often warm. Total sweatshirt and jeans time of year and throw in a nice leather jacket and I am all set!
Also, fall is like a beginning for me. I know most people consider the new year in Jan as the new beginning but for me it has always been fal. Maybe because for so many years it was back to school time?
And fall is my birthday
by MichellekCanada September 29th, 2010 at 10:32 amI hear ya on the “new beginning” Michele, and I usually am happy to slip the boots back on after a summer of being barefoot
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:47 amyour post cracked me up. Creepy bastards lol I like the fall weather. Not to hot not to cold. Nice scenic view of the leaves changing and apples! Good stuff! Don’t mention winter or I’ll be highly upset though ok? lol
Lisa B
by Lisa B September 29th, 2010 at 1:50 pmMy kids say they’re ready for the four-letter word – SNOW — I tune them out
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:48 amFor some reason my brain must not of been registering what I read last night. Because I didn’t even answer the question you asked.
by Rachel rachel Riddles September 29th, 2010 at 1:59 pmI think what I love best about fall is, obviously the leaves changing colors, but I really love, love, love the smell in the air. My husband laughs at me when I tell him I can smell fall coming, but you can. Don’t even ask me to describe it because can’t. You get to wear sweaters too which I love. What I hate is raking leaves = ( especially when my little boys decide to jump in them.
But, Rachel, I’ll bet those boys are so cute as they’re jumping. One of my favorite pics of my daughters in when they’re in a huge pile of leaves when they were little
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:49 amI guess the thing I love about fall is that it starts to cool down and we get those nice orange colors on the leaves..except this week it is super hot in LA. I wish it was cooler, oh well.
by Himeko September 29th, 2010 at 3:50 pmI’ve heard it’s brutal in CA and TX and AZ this week, Himeko…
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:49 amFall to me means Cowboy Christmas during NFR.
by lorenet September 29th, 2010 at 9:31 pmLorenet, I’m DYING to get back to that event during NFR. Hubby’s company sold guns there a couple of years, and I never got to look around as much as I wanted to, as I was too busy looking at all the cowboy manflesh
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:50 amI love everything about fall! I love the colors, the smell of the falling leaves, the temperature when it’s right in that perfect not too hot and not too cold zone. It’s my favorite season. I especially love that it’s the perfect time of year to go to the beach. Bathing suits aren’t my thing. A sweater, a pair of jeans, and a shoreline are my favorite combo.
by JM Kelley September 29th, 2010 at 10:28 pmJM, I’ve never been to the beach in the fall.
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:52 amHonetsly I loveteh sun sets and the crisp cool air in fall I love teh smells and how the leaves fall off the treats as well i find fall to be so extrodinaly simple yet beautiful
by Beverly G September 30th, 2010 at 4:21 amGreat description Beverly.
by Lori Armstrong September 30th, 2010 at 7:52 amI’m sorry… but I don’t like fall. It reminds me that winter is not that far behind which for me totally sucks. I think I have SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder. I am a person who need her sun and warm weather. One thing I can say about fall and the cooler weather is I am glad to be able to see my favorite sweat pants again, at least for just awhile!
by Lisa G. September 30th, 2010 at 9:20 pmMy favorite thing about fall? Besides the jacket-wearing weather (I LOVE jackets.. hoodies! Sweaters! Yay!).. I guess I would have to say the crunchy leaves! There’s nothing about taking a walk on a cool day, and crunching through the leaves on the sidewalk..
Morning Glow
by Morning Glow October 1st, 2010 at 10:16 pmWhat I like about “fall”, lol, not much, it’s a sign that winter is coming, allergies fly into high gear, fear of walking pneumonia and/or bronchitis, cold mornings to wake up too. On the positive side of fall, well there’s the leaves colors changing, thats really pretty, the cold nites w/a cup of coffee and a good book, btw just finished Corralled, VERY GOOD! the warm sweaters and firing up the fire pits to hang with friends, the inspiration that I get. time to check out websites & post blogs that i normally wouldnt due to shyness, yes i get shy sometimes, lol, because the nite comes earlier, but mostly i prefer the summer.
by Elizabeth Montondo October 2nd, 2010 at 8:32 amLOL! Very entertaining post, Lori. My favorite fall thing is the cooler weather, which is perfect for enjoying chili, soups, and stews… Those hit the spot after a day out!
by Fedora October 2nd, 2010 at 11:41 amFOOTBALL! oh and entering my 2nd fall season in Florida I have to admit I am really liking the random day/days where the humidity goes below 100% and the temps drop into the 70′s….man that makes me miss being in Wisconsin!
by Cindi Mitchell October 6th, 2010 at 1:17 pm
