I’m playing hooky today. I’m heading west to Sacramento where I’m hooking up with Allison, Eileen Rendahl, Alyssa Day, Virna DePaul and a few other goils for an afternoon of chauffeured wine tasting in the Sacramento valley.
It’s supposed to rain, pour in fact, but we’re not going to let that stop us from having a gay ol’ time. I’m really looking forward to an afternoon where I don’t have to be anything to anyone except one of the girls. No one is going to ask me what’s for dinner. No one is going to ask me to drive them here or there, or please do this or please do that. No one is going to ask me to make a decision for them. I get to do what I want, for me.
Ah, bliss…
So, I’m going to ask, what do you all do for a girl’s day out? But I won’t be around to chat until late afternoon, or maybe not until Saturday, but I will respond, and with all the fun deets!
Happy Friday!

Normally, I would be apoplectic with envy. But just yesterday, the fabulous Louisa Edwards arrived in town and, along with the Queen of Fun Kristen Painter, we walked the beach, drank some wine, watched the dolphins cavort in my backyard, shared pizza, and plotted a trilogy! Doesn’t get any better than that. The fun will continue all weekend. The only thing missing is the chauffeur!
Have a blast, ladies!!
by Roxanne St. Claire February 26th, 2010 at 7:22 amYeah, yeah, rub it in Rocki, LOL. We had fun, and if you ever visit me I’ll share some of the fabulous wine we bought!!!
by Allison Brennan February 27th, 2010 at 1:19 amWow, have fun, ladies! This weekend is looking really good for wine down here in Alabama too! As for girls day out, just last Saturday, my youngest, her best friend (daughter of my best friend), my best friend and I all had a road trip for my youngest to try on wedding dresses and my bf’s youngest to try on brides maid dresses. Then we had greasy cheeseburgers and big ol’ cokes. It was a blast!
by Debra Webb February 26th, 2010 at 9:00 amEnjoy, chicas!! Sounds like so much fun. I love going to movies with my girlfriends. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities when I don’t have to consider a guy’s tastes.
by Laura Griffin February 26th, 2010 at 10:24 amHave a blast you guys! What a great time that sounds like
I haven’t been wine tasting in ages. Might have to recommend that to my critique group as an exercise in, uh, creativity…
by Sophie Littlefield February 26th, 2010 at 10:34 amA meal out, a movie (or two), and shopping.
Have fun!!
by S. J. Day February 26th, 2010 at 10:52 amWe usually do lunch in Santa Monica, followed by a movie or spa treatment. Or a walk along the ocean if we’re feeling energetic!
by Kathryn Lilley February 26th, 2010 at 11:48 amWe do what you’re doing, Karin. A weekend in wine country. The men fish and the women make the rounds of the wineries in Lodi. Once we had a limo and it got pretty crazy.
by Carol Luce February 26th, 2010 at 12:38 pmColor me green! The last time I had “Girl’s Out”, the CP and I drove to New Orleans for a writers conference. We get our fix otherwise by meeting at a local coffee bar (NOT Starbucks!) and end up in a panic because it’s mid-afternoon and she has to dash to pick up her youngest at school.
Hope y’all had a blast! (Not that I have any doubts-lol)
by Silver James February 26th, 2010 at 3:30 pmI love having a nice brunch or lunch with friends. And a trip to B&N is always a good time.
by Jill James February 26th, 2010 at 4:29 pmHave a great time! You deserve it!
by Jen Lyon February 26th, 2010 at 4:44 pmI will go and spend the day with my sister and we’ll go out to eat somewhere. We always enjoy this. Sometimes we’ll both go spend the weekend with my younger sister. Then we ususally have a few drinks and play darts, that’s always a lot of fun.
by Quilt Lady February 26th, 2010 at 7:28 pmFood is usually involved. Sometimes wine. Sometimes a show.
Your weekend sounds fabulous. Enjoy!
by Edie February 26th, 2010 at 10:59 pmI don’t get many Girls Day Out but when it does happen it consists in 2 important things : shopping and restaurant. Shoping with my husband or the kids is a real nightmare. DH can’t understand how I can spend 20 min in a shop and NOT buy a thing… and the kids well, they’re 3 and 9 so you can imagine.
by Emmanuelle February 27th, 2010 at 4:12 amAlso food is always involved. Going to the restaurant with my girlfriends is a must-do. A lot of talking and complaining there. A lot of fun too !!
Sometimes a friend and I will go and just grab some lunch and get a manicure. Depends.
For me, though, if I can just get out of the house, with an ADULT, and have conversations that do not involve spongebob, bedtime or videogames? That’s good.
by Shiloh Walker February 27th, 2010 at 9:34 amHope you guys had a blast!
I usually do girls day with my daughters…because we have so much fun
by Lori Armstrong February 27th, 2010 at 9:39 amMy daughters are too young to go wine tasting . . . oh, other kinds of fun! My daughters and I watch SUPERNATURAL every week and we’re working our way through BUFFY–plus we like the same movies. And shopping is always fun with them! (Fun? Okay, sometimes it’s simply an experience . . . )
by Allison Brennan February 27th, 2010 at 8:30 pmIt has been forever since I had a Girls’ Day Out. Don’t know what I’d want to do.
by Patricia Barraclough February 28th, 2010 at 12:30 amThe fun has definitely continued down here in Florida! Kristen, Rocki, and I had more wine and more plotting yesterday after our workshop, and then Rocki’s handsome husband cooked us a fabulous Italian feast. I may never leave!
by Louisa Edwards February 28th, 2010 at 11:11 amI’m not ignoring you ladies! so much wine, so much fun, so much recovering! hahahahaha! off to a bridal shower in a couple of hours. so bummed i’m going to miss the hockey game.
