You guys are having contest all the time !! I’m not complaining of course
by Emmanuelle December 16th, 2009 at 5:20 amI have many favorite reads for 2009 so it’s pretty tough to just pick one.
Anyway I’d say Gone Too Far by Jennifer Echols. It’s a YA fiction/romance. I’ve been offered that book so I had no idea what to expect. PLus I had never read any YA book and I admit I was a bit prejudiced at first.
As it happened I loved the book and devoured it in one setting. Everyhting worked for me : the writing, the plot, the characters. It was my first YA book and definitelely not the last !
Thanks again for the generous contest !
First, I am totally bummed I didn’t win that CD. I found clips of him on You Tube and aside from being hot, hot, hot, his musical skills are amazing.
Fave read that’s not a MSW writer? Talk of the Town by Karen Hawkins. Roxie Tremayne reinvents herself after finding out her husband was cheating with his business partner Larry. She’s poised to head for Paris when she learns her mother’s had a heart attack and she has to return to her little hometown of Glory, NC where of course she runs smack into her high school crush.
All around great read!
by Marilyn December 16th, 2009 at 5:42 amSuzanne Brockmann’s HOT PURSUIT comes in at #1 on my list for 2009. I’d been waiting with baited breath for the continuing story of Alyssa and Sam, and Suz did not disappoint.
by Chicki Brown December 16th, 2009 at 5:51 am
This is an unfair question every book that I have read this year has been my favorite. Since I have to pick one that is not a MSW writer I will have to go with Laura Griffin, I just discovered her last month and her books are excellent.
by Shanae December 16th, 2009 at 6:05 amI just read Eat Pray Love and it was wonderful! I am looking forward to reading her next book soon.
I also just read The Unseen which was awesome! Like the Shining but better.
by Courtney December 16th, 2009 at 6:06 amI *loved* EPL. Cannot wait for the movie!
by Roxanne St. Claire December 16th, 2009 at 7:30 amDo I have to pick just one?
I loved all three of books in the Last Chance Rescue series by Christy Reece, although I think the first one Rescue Me was my favorite, and I cant wait to get my hands on the next three books!
by Tiffany December 16th, 2009 at 6:27 amONE favorite read?? Yikes! Skin Game, by Ann Aguirre’s Ava Gray alter ego. I also loved her Jax books, but we did say one…
by Fedora December 16th, 2009 at 6:30 amIt is so hard to pick one favorite book, but if I had to pick just one it would be LAID BARE by Lauren Dane. The book is labeled as erotic romance, but is so much more. The characters are written with so much emotional depth. The book made me laugh and cry along with the characters.
by Carrie December 16th, 2009 at 6:39 amCongratulations, Silver!
Favorite read of 2009??? Ack. I can’t choose. I read so many great books this year. Since I have to pick just one, though, I’ll go with S.L. Viehl’s StarDoc – because it got me hooked on the entire series and they’re all awesome.
by B.E. Sanderson December 16th, 2009 at 6:55 amB.E. — I love Lynn’s writing — isn’t she phenomenal?
by toni mcgee causey December 16th, 2009 at 11:42 amI think it’s a recent one, Waking Evil by Kylie Brant although it’s hard to just pick one.
by Maureen December 16th, 2009 at 7:06 amIt would have to Cathy Yardley’s Enslave: The Taming of the Beast
by Veronica December 16th, 2009 at 7:13 amSilly me I forget to say Congrats to Silver James
by Veronica December 16th, 2009 at 7:13 amOy! Very hard to choose but if you put a gun to my head (LOL) I’d say SKIN GAME by Ava Gray (aka Ann Aguirre). Absolutely loved that book!
by Pearl December 16th, 2009 at 7:13 amHmmm favorite read of the year by a non MSW author?
by limecello December 16th, 2009 at 7:16 amSmooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas.
Thanks for having this contest! You’re all so very generous!
My favorite books from 2009 are wildly different from each other: Pitch Black by Leslie Parrish/Leslie Kelly and Rampant by Diana Peterfreund.
by Caroline December 16th, 2009 at 8:03 amWoohoo! See me happy dancing! Rocki, email headed your way.
Y’all are so generous!
Best book by a non-MSW author…and the winner is….
Leslie Parrish for FADE TO BLACK, book one in her Black CATs series!
by Silver James December 16th, 2009 at 8:07 amNineteen Minutes ~ Jodi Picoult
by tgodinho December 16th, 2009 at 8:22 amTwo come to mind. In the Romance category, it would be Kate Brady’s “One Scream Away.” In the non-romance category, it would be T.L. Hines “The Unseen.” I literally could not stop reading The Unseen and read the entire book in one sitting.
by Peri December 16th, 2009 at 8:26 amMy favorite read for 2009, can’t mention my first, you said not to, so I’ll go with Gena Showalter’s Darkest Kiss. Actually loved the whole Lords of the Underworld series.
by Sharon Knight December 16th, 2009 at 8:34 amThis is such a hard question to answer because I’ve read so many fabulous books this year. But, if I have to choose just one, I’m going to have to go with The Doomsday Key by James Rollins.
by Karin December 16th, 2009 at 8:35 amHmm, this is tough. I’ve read so many good books this year! Since I have to choose one, I’ll go with KINDRED IN DEATH by JD Robb.
by Leigh R December 16th, 2009 at 8:36 amHi

by RKCharron December 16th, 2009 at 8:50 amMy favorite book I read this year is REGENESIS by C.J. Cherryh. It is the sequel to her amazing CYTEEN novel and I had to wait 20 years for it.
Happy Holidays,
RKCharron
So hard to choose but I think for sheer humor and delight, it has to be “The Gurensey Sweet Potatoe Pie and Literary Society.” Wonderful, funny book. However, I’m reading the new Stephen King book, “Under the Dome” and it’s facinating. For funny, “Pride, Predjudice and Zomies” has to be one of my all time faves.
by Carol Shenold December 16th, 2009 at 8:59 amThis is a tough one. I would have to say Lover Avenged by JR Ward. The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is top notch adventure and romance with an ongoing story. Can’t wait till April for the next installment.
Happy Holidays
by Linda Fowler December 16th, 2009 at 9:00 amLinda
It’s a toss-up for me between Shannon K. Butcher’s LOVE YOU TO DEATH and HIDDEN FIRE by Jo Davis. Both excellent examples of romantic suspense – tortured hero, intelligent, beautiful heroine – doesn’t get much better without being a Bullet Catcher! Hey, you didn’t say anything about not making references.
by Laurie December 16th, 2009 at 9:48 amSOULLESS by Gail Carringer
by Margaret A. Golla December 16th, 2009 at 10:20 amLOVE IT!!! Pubbed by Orbit, labelled by fantasy/horror, but it is much, much more than that–steampunk at it’s finest!!!
Wow, another GREAT giveaway!! Authors are verrry generous peeps!! How about fav authors for 2009, a little easier. Every book I’m reading is my fav!! I found two new authors this year and their books are my favs for 2009. I luved books by Jill Shalvis and Kate Angell. Happy Holidays to all!! Thanks, Sue
by QLady48 December 16th, 2009 at 10:27 amDead and Gone, by Charlaine Harris
by GSM December 16th, 2009 at 10:28 amSame as Shanae. I’ve read all of Laura Griffin’s books this year.
by kmg December 16th, 2009 at 10:46 amLots of favorites this year, my top fav ebook was Club Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair (loved this whole series), and for paperback , I will go with, A Vampire’s Claim by Joey W. Hill.
by Cathy M December 16th, 2009 at 10:56 amAcheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon!
by Teresa W. December 16th, 2009 at 11:18 amWow! I tough question. But I guess a nice price is worthy of a tough question. I’m still contemplating what my favorite reads list will include, but one of the books that will definitely be on it is BREATHING WATER by Timothy Hallinan. I have no idea how this man is not known by everyone yet. He’s an incredible writer and his Poke Rafferty series is outstanding. This is the third book and definitely the best – which is saying a lot since I adore the entire series!
by Jen Forbus December 16th, 2009 at 11:20 amStone Quarry by S.J. Rozan. I love, love, love the Lydia Chin/Bill Smith series. Top-shelf writing, great characters. Another book I totally loved this year: Sandman Slim by Kadrey.
by lois December 16th, 2009 at 11:28 amHmm, not by a murder she writes author? Wow, guess I’d pick a nonfiction one, Pretty in Plaid, by Jen Lancaster because basically she’s writing my adolescence biography, even if she insists it’s her own story! Awesomely funny read!
by Marcia Carter December 16th, 2009 at 11:28 am
by LJM December 16th, 2009 at 11:31 amMy favourite read this year. hmm I think I will choose Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs.
Animal Attraction by Charlene Teglia.
by Annmarie December 16th, 2009 at 11:37 amMy favorite read for this year was The Forgotten Garden. Not the only book I read, but that was the best from this year.
by Joanne R December 16th, 2009 at 11:42 amCongrats Silver!
I read a lot of books this year, mostly by my faves but one book that really stood out for me and I had to pass it onto others was Lie to Me by debut author Starr Ambrose.
by Terri Molina December 16th, 2009 at 11:49 amI would have to say Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
by CrystalGB December 16th, 2009 at 12:04 pmWell, to keep it simple and no oh, but then there is this one too kind of thing, I looked in my journal and took the first 5+ book of the year. And that was HelenKay Dimon’s Hot as Hell. So, now, not looking at the rest of the year because I’ll want to add more.
Lois
by Lois December 16th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
It’s not fair I can’t pick “When a Man Loves a Weapon” by Toni McGee Causey, I love it! But since I can’t I will go with “Bone Crossed” by Patricia Briggs. I love a good Mercy Thompson novel almost as much as a Bobbie Faye novel.
by Julie Delorme December 16th, 2009 at 12:16 pmAww, Julie, thank you!
And I *loved* Bone Crossed, too. Got completely hooked on that series and now I keep wishing I could make her magically update every other week.
by Toni McGee Causey December 17th, 2009 at 12:12 amI loved Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, it got me started on that series, his other books as well.
by gaylin December 16th, 2009 at 12:22 pmIt was great to discover such great YA books even though I am 50. Surprisingly complex books for Young Adults.
I think I’m going to have to say that my favorite book that came out this year would be Bone Crossed by Patrica Briggs.
by Nicole Catherine December 16th, 2009 at 12:23 pmTalk about an impossible question. I read so many books that to pick one favorite is really tough. So how about a new author that I just picked up this year and added to my must have books by list.
Pamela Palmer
by Val December 16th, 2009 at 12:28 pmMy favorite read… I have to pick only one??? darn…I would have to say the Eve series, Hubby brought them for me when he went away..Now I need to find more.. but I live in the middle of nowhere…Check out Greenwood NS some day!
by Dianne Hemming December 16th, 2009 at 12:37 pmMerry Christmas from Snowy NS!
I’ve read so many great books this year and would have to look all through my Good Reads page to remember all of them. Recently I read Torn by Julie Kenner and adored it. I would have to say Tainted and Torn both by Julie Kenner are some of my favorite books I’ve read this year. I’ve also loved Three Days to Dead by Kelly Meding which was a stunning debut! Awesome contest. I’d love to win this!
by RachaelfromNJ December 16th, 2009 at 12:51 pmFavorite read of 2009: If a graphic novel counts, I’d give a shout to “Britten and Brulightly” by Hannah Berry. If it doesn’t count, then I’d go with “The Guards” by Ken Bruen which I finally got around to reading. Both rich in atmosphere and characterization.
by Kevin December 16th, 2009 at 1:01 pmI read so many it’s so hard to choose. The one I guess that stuck out the most in my mind is J.R. Ward’s Lover Avenged. Probably because I feel like I had to wait so long for it and it was so worth it
by Amber Leigh Williams December 16th, 2009 at 1:35 pmI read so many it’s so hard to choose. The one I guess that stuck out the most in my mind is J.R. Ward’s Lover Avenged. Probably because I feel like I had to wait so long for it and it was so worth it
by Amber Leigh Williams December 16th, 2009 at 1:35 pmOoh! There were sooooo many! Hard to choose, but if I had to choose just one it would be Rescue Me from Christy Reece’s Last Chance Rescue series. The rest of them were great too, but that one was my favorite! I love second chance at love stories, even unrequited ones!
I am looking so forward to her new follow up series.
Congrats Silver!
And a very Happy Holiday season to the Murder She Writes crew!
by ErinT December 16th, 2009 at 1:44 pmI would have to say Die for Me by Karen Rose. She is my favorite romantic suspense after Allison.
by Jill James December 16th, 2009 at 1:49 pmMy favorite read was Cindy Gerard’s “Feel the Heat.” Another favorite is Karen Rose’s “Kill For Me.”
by Jane December 16th, 2009 at 2:10 pmOh, Toni, having us exclude MSW authors is just not fair! Where IS the competition?
I discovered MANY, MANY new authors this year, more than ever before. My best read, however, was “I’m Watching You”, by Karen Rose, which has become my favorite book. It’s an AMAZING story, with a hero of my dreams and a strong heroine who’s been through hell but doesn’t feel sorry for herself and is has her mind open to great new experience. The secondary characters and their storylines are absolutely perfect and essential. Every element of the book is just amazing and I love it to death!!!!
Also, I can’t NOT mention “Undone”, by Karin Slaughter, which wasn’t the best book I read in content (it was SO sad overall), but I’d been waiting for it for two years, so, it was amazing to finally read it.
I like this guy
by Barbie December 16th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Thank you, Barbie — you totally made my night. I know the other MSW authors agree, though–it’s really great to see books we may not have yet discovered and to give props out to some really fine authors, especially right here at Christmas. Thank you!!
by Toni McGee Causey December 17th, 2009 at 12:14 amI read Pride & Prejudice for the first time, and I enjoyed it. I love how proper they talked back then. Thanks for the chance!
by Cheryl December 16th, 2009 at 2:56 pmWhat a wonderful giveaway. A favorite book that I enjoyed this past year was The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.
by anne December 16th, 2009 at 3:40 pmMy favorite read this year was “in the fall” by Jeffrey Lent. When people call him Faulknerian they aren’t kidding.
by blake k December 16th, 2009 at 4:03 pmI’m going to say the same thing everyone else is saying – its really hard to pick just one!! But the one that is coming to mind right now is Heaven Sent by Dawn McClure – funny, original, smokin’ hot hero – what more could you ask?
by Bonnie H December 16th, 2009 at 4:33 pmI really loved The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister. My mouth was watering through the entire book!
by Janel December 16th, 2009 at 5:26 pmLike everyone else, I don’t think I could possibly pick just one…But I would have to say that my most anticipated read was Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.
by Melissa Wehunt December 16th, 2009 at 5:58 pmMy favorite from a great reading year: Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely. Close close close second: Liz Carlyle’s Never Lie to a Lady. (Also adored Yann Martel’s Life of Pi, but for different reasons than the above!)
by Katharine Ashe December 16th, 2009 at 5:57 pmSo many wonderful books, so little time!
Btw, not fair to not let us list your books!
by Katharine Ashe December 16th, 2009 at 5:58 pmI dont know if I can pick one overall favorite. But one of my top favorites was One Scream Away by Kate Brady.
by Donna S December 16th, 2009 at 6:35 pmMagic Bites, by Illona Andrews. Romantic paranormal Noir.
by Poppy December 16th, 2009 at 7:23 pmI just finished John Connelly’s Book of Lost Things.
by Michelle Pillow December 16th, 2009 at 7:28 pmPushed enter too soon. Meant to add… I don’t know if it was my fave but it had a pretty interesting take on the old fairy tales.
by Michelle Pillow December 16th, 2009 at 7:30 pmDon’t know if it was published in 09, but
“The Likeness” by Tana French. Hands down. I think about it a lot.
Close seconds would be “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” and “Dark Places” by Gillan Flynn.
by Shizuka December 16th, 2009 at 8:28 pmThis is a hard question . . . I’m in the middle of reading RUNNING FROM THE DEVIL by James Freveletti, a thriller, which is really, really good . . . I also read Laura Griffin’s UNTRACEABLE as an arc and it was a great romantic suspense.
by Allison Brennan December 16th, 2009 at 11:19 pmSuzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, hands down. http://www.suzannecollinsbooks.com/

Nalini Singh–Psy/Changeling series. I found her this summer and had to read the whole series-so far. I’m anxiously awaiting the rest =)
Catherine
by Catherine December 17th, 2009 at 7:18 amOh, hard call… I loved Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews, but that isn’t due out yet, so dunno if that counts.
Maybe One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost or Deathwish by Rob Thurman. Tough call.

by Natasha December 17th, 2009 at 7:55 amWoW my favorite read of 2009? That’s really a hard one.

But I read so many great books!
Thanks for the great giveaway =)
by Tynga December 17th, 2009 at 8:26 amONE Book! Impossible, of course. And remembering all the books I read for the entire year? More than impossible.
I decided to go with ‘new to me’ authors.
A quick run-through of my Goodreads updates (after eliminating MSW authors, per instructions) reminded me that I discovered P.J. Tracy, and really enjoyed Monkeewrench and Live Bait.
by Terry Odell December 17th, 2009 at 8:31 amSorry got here late on Thursday. Anyway my favorite read of 2009 was a tie between “Trick Of The LIght” by author Rob Thurman & “Skinwalker” by Faith Hunter. I cannot pick because they are both too good to choose between, fast paced full of twists and turns and very likeable characters and most of all they have introduced me to a new series by each author and that just does it for me..
by Jackie B. December 17th, 2009 at 9:14 amThis has found me some new books and authors to read so thanks for the contest…
Jackie B Central Texas
oh another great one
thanks ladies
laid bare by lauren dane

by kim h December 17th, 2009 at 10:16 amSuch a tough question. There are so many good books out there.
Some of my fav’s this year have been Alyssa Day’s Atlantis series, Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series, Rhevenge by JR
Ward. This past summer discovered Delilah Devlin and Shayla Kerston, both local writers here in AR and I have to say thanks to Arkansas Cyndi I found Toni’s books. (I know yours don’t count).
I guess absolute favorites (besides MSW authors) would be Lora Leigh. She is awesome and puts out a ton of quality books through out the year.
by Heather Brewer December 17th, 2009 at 10:24 amK so I’m going to have to go with Johanna Lindsey A rogue of her Own
by jennifer mathis December 17th, 2009 at 2:27 pmSo many books and not enough time!
One of the books I read this year and recommend highly is Katrina Kittle’s The Kindness Of Strangers.
by Mary December 17th, 2009 at 3:16 pmDream Fever by Karin Marie Moning. There are many others too but that was the first one to pop into my head. I also liked Prefection by Kris Cook and Sounds To Die By by Nikki Duncan.
by Zina Lynch December 17th, 2009 at 5:01 pmZina
seawitch6464@yahoo.com
Hmmm. That really is a tough one. It would have to be a tie between Keri Arthur’s Bound to Shadows or Jordan Summer’s Red. Both were amazing.
angel28140 (AT) yahoo (DOT) com

by sally@sagehousing.com December 18th, 2009 at 7:49 pmBiting Nixie
by Suzie December 18th, 2009 at 9:46 pmPunk musician falls for tall, blue-eyed suitguy lawyer who is a vampire. It’s got a little bit of everything – including humor for those who need to laugh.
I would have to say Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick or Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. They were both really good, can’t put down reads!
by Holly December 22nd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
