Recently, I had to break down and call a colleague of mine at the university where I teach -- someone in the chemistry/forensic science department...I looked him up on the U directory (thank heavens, I know NO ONE in that department) and asked what happens to human flesh when nitric acid hits it. Worse was something like, "If a body burned with nitric acid is disposed of in, say, the Everglades, will they find traces of it or two-headed alligators or anything?"
