So, the year is now halfway over. Can you believe it? I’m still trying to figure out where the time went. The 4th of July holiday is almost upon us. Anyone have any fun plans?
When I realized that it’s the middle of the year, I took stock of how well I’m progressing with my New Year’s Resolutions. I really had only one official goal–to read 52 books this year. I’m definitely behind, but I’m doing better than I have the last few years, so I’m hopeful that I’ll catch up by year’s end. I’ll be picking up more new books this week and plan to finish at least two, even though I have work to do and can’t take the whole week off. *sigh*
I’m also working on my fitness goals. I’ve lost weight, and I bought a Wii Fit last week. I haven’t had any chance to use it yet, because the kids are out of school and they’re enjoying it. That’s perfectly fine with me. I’ve got another way to exercise that I enjoy. There’s a park nearby that has a stream and large, tall, old trees that shade the entire route. My daughter and I walked the dog through there one day and we decided we love it. It’s an amazing little park. It’s right in the middle of a large residential area and yet when you’re inside it, it feels like you’re miles away from the city. Rabbits hop around, lizards scamper, lots of dogs being walked. My dog, Jesse, loves it, too. (I also did some clothes shopping last week, because I’m feeling good about the weight loss. That’s always a wonderful feeling!)
I’ve also kept up with my 2008 resolution to spend more time connecting with people and less time in my cave. I’ve already enjoyed one retreat with friends this year and I have another one planned for the second half of the year. I’ve talked on the phone a lot, and made it to two local chapter meetings. It’s really been good for my muse to get out and spend time with other adults, even if it’s just over the phone. Email is convenient and I love that about it, but it’s also impersonal. I’m glad the resolution is still working out this year.
How about you? Do you feel like you’ve accomplished a lot in the first half of the year? Are you on track to reach your year-end goals?
Extra: This is a big release week for the MSW gals. Toni, Debra, Heather, and I have books hitting shelves tomorrow. Toni has Girls Just Wanna Have Guns, Deb has Everywhere She Turns, Heather has Dust to Dust, and I have Eve of Chaos. Plenty of excuses to hit the bookstore this week. Congratulations to T, D, and H! Release day is always so fun!

Hi

by Rob Charron June 29th, 2009 at 3:15 amThank you for sharing! The park sounds delightful and perfect for a summer stroll.
I’m behind on my year’s goal of finishing my novel but am confident I’ll complete it & rewrite it & send it out by Dec 31st.
Love From Canada
xoxo
Congrats to all on the new releases!
I’m meeting my writing goals, although my career goals (which are more like ‘dreams’ because I can’t really control them) aren’t progressing the way I’d hoped. I made some tough decisions, but I think they were the right ones, even though they shoved me back along the trail.
Real-life stresses, like tomorrow is hubby’s last day being employed, and we’re trying to sell the house in an impossible market — they tend to drag one down. But I thank goodness for the outlet writing gives me.
by Terry Odell June 29th, 2009 at 5:59 amI’m behind on a couple of goals (especially working out consistently… I’m still too sporadic). Writing-wise, I think I’m close to what I thought I’d be. Family wise, doing better–had a lot to get done the first half of this year. Had a son graduate as a firefighter two weeks ago, too, so that’s really super.
And *thank you* for the mention for the books. I have my MSW list and I am hitting the bookstores tomorrow. Fingers crossed for everyone that it’s a great week.
by toni mcgee causey June 29th, 2009 at 6:53 amNot quite on track, but aiming for end of August to be where I want to be.
I love the Wii Fit. Lost 4 pounds so far.
Reading Toni’s book. Awesome.
Love Heather’s cover. Cool
Loving life. Yeah!!!
by Jill James June 29th, 2009 at 11:11 amWay to go, S.J., for keeping up with your resolutions! Dang it I have to do better! And thanks for the shoutout!
by Debra Webb June 29th, 2009 at 12:00 pm*sigh* Must hit bookstore now.
Goals? I’m getting there. FAERIE FATE is done and I have my release date for April, 2010 so I can start planning marketing strategies while I finish edits on FAERIE FIRE and get it back to Ms. Editor.
Between now and Thanksgiving, I hope to have many agent queries out (and returned with offers! *crosses fingers*) plus getting my urban paranormal (yes, I created my own subgenre – lol) and romantic suspense novels revised and polished to be represented when that dream agent calls.
And cut the TBR pile in half. Ya’ll stop releasing books, ‘kay?!?
by Silver James June 29th, 2009 at 12:39 pmCongrats on all the books, ladies! Very exciting.
by Pamela DuMond June 29th, 2009 at 1:10 pmI am so far behind with everything. It has been a year of trying to catch up. I am almost done with my summer reading program and have been doing prep work as I go. The plans were in my head and finally on paper, but not as soon as I normally do. Was working on a remodel and reorganization of the children’s room at the library at the same time. Since we moved into what was a storeroom/program area, I am still having to deal with all that. By Dec. I will probably be where I should have been in June. Unfortunately, my house is in the same shape. What I need is for everyone to be gone and to lock myself in for about a week.
by Patricia Barraclough June 29th, 2009 at 6:39 pmI’m doing pretty good on my goals. I quit smoking. almost three weeks now, but I’m not going to kid myself. I will smoke at National.
I sold my L.O.S.T. series, or the first two books anyway, and am working on another proposal (must keep my name out there).
I haven’t lost the weight I’ve wanted to lose, but I am walking regularly.
Congrats on all the great releases ladys!
