I don't know, but if I'm not logged in as an author here, I get held in moderation, too . . . I'll ask our web guru.

I would like to win an ARC of Sudden Death. I just read about duplication of a Concordance about Modesty Blaise. The copier claims the second Concordance is his original work even though they are virtually identical. also the original Concordance is free to view and print for private use.

Wow, great post, Allison! Quite the debate you've stirred up in the comments section over there.

And I completely agree that a great deal of this is "generational". I worry about how that bodes for their future.

A very thoughtful post on Romancing the Blog, Allison. I wish I had an answer for the problem but I don't. With the economy in the tank as it is a lot more people are seriously reconsidering wants over needs. They may want a new book from their favorite author but may not need it. What to do? A free download you say? Why not? The hours of blood, sweat and tears the author invested in that book never comes into play. Toni McGee Causey's post above had it right. You have to make it personal for the illegal downloaders to understand.

I read your post at RTB yesterday, Allison, and it was excellent. (I didn't comment because you said it all, and I was fuming over that one commenter.) Theft of ideas is a theft like any other. Of course, taking things that don't belong to you seems to be less of problem for some people than others. It sad that even people who would never think of reaching into your pocket and taking a twenty have no problem with stealing your books. Feh.

i don't know what happened to the comment I made this morning, but please put me in the hat for your ARC. I would love a chance to win it. Even if I don't win, will buy it as soon as it becomes available.

Question - why do all my comments get set aside for moderation? Just curious.

I remember the first e-book "sharing" site I saw. Very amateurish. But now, a friend send me a link to a site she'd sent a C&D letter. It was a forum! Someone there was requesting Shayla Kersten's new book that had been released the day before. Un-freaking-believable!

UBS are great for me to try new authors. But I buy new books to support authors I like, friends, etc.
