By the time y’all read this I’ll be up in the wilds of Lake Tahoe communing with nature. And hopefully not communing with the bear that broke into the house last week and had a little party. Bears abound in the Sierras and if memory serves me correctly a couple of years ago when I was up there with a bunch of girlfriends, there was one that kept me up all night digging for grubs in the tree trunk in the backyard of the house we were staying. The bugger was rude, snorted and grunted and well, he left a mess. I was up on the second floor, but my friend Lee was in the downstairs back bedroom. I would have had visions of Grizzly all night. No thank you.
But that brings me to my blog topic today. Nat gave me the idea with her Crazy blog Tuesday. If you read my comment, you will know that I am very, um, boring? But there is hope! While I might be boring, I am adventurous. In fact while most of my adventures happen in my imagination or to my characters, there are a few that if I had the time, and the money, I’d love to go on.
I would love to go on a Safari. Explore the Galapagos, or canoe down the Amazon and check out the rain forest or zip through the Everglades on one of those airboats, and tag and ID ‘gators. I would LOVE to sail the Caribbean. I would give my right arm to go out on the Northwestern or the Time Bandit and take on Mother Nature. I’d like to ride horseback into Waimea Canyon and with my trusty bow bring down a big bad feral boar then have the locals cook him and have one hell of a luau.
Jumping out of an airplane or bungee jumping off a bridge? No freakin’ way. Acrobatics in an airplane? Nope. Riding 140 + mph with Jr at say, Infineon Raceway? Maybe.
How about you? Are you adventurous? And what would be the ultimate adventure?
(I’ll try to respond today, but it’s my understanding that the house I’m staying at has no Internet. And strangely, I’m good with that. But I’ll be home Saturday.)

I would love to go on a shark dive. Only I don’t know how to scuba dive and I’m a lousy swimmer. I would also love to go on an African Safari and see the Egyptian Pyramids. I would also love to go on a book signing tour. Here’s hopin’ some of them come true.
Karin,
Have a fabulous time!
by HollyD September 19th, 2008 at 8:20 amI don’t know that I’m all that adventurous. I mean, I’d love to meet Sig and Edgar Hansen and tour the Northwestern, but I don’t think I’d like going out crabbing with them. I like to meet the Cornelia Marie and the Time Bandit crews, too. My idea of adventure is renting a cabin in the wilderness and vegging out for a week – provided the cabin has running water and indoor toilets.
Have a fun time, Karin, and see you when you get back. (Or at least see you online.) =o)
by B.E. Sanderson September 19th, 2008 at 8:33 amI would love to sail down the Nile and see the Pyramids. I would love to go to Scotland and see castles. I would love to go to Rome and see the Coliseum. I would love to go on the airplane that nosedives so you are weightless like an astronaut. I would love to go to SpaceCamp.
by Amanda September 19th, 2008 at 10:12 amYou made me smile at the memory of that nasty rude bear. He did keep us up all night and he was right outside my window…What fun that trip was…
by Lee September 19th, 2008 at 12:59 pmI have a list of things I’d love to experience, and have done a few of them, visiting Ireland a couple of times, and the UK..I’ve been to the Coliseum and the Vatican..Those were on my list..Next on the list is France. I want to drive all over France, and spend time in Langduedoc, near the history of Cathars…We’re hoping next year will be that trip…A trip down the Nile is one, and on the Amazon. I want to rent a small house on one of the Greek Islands, and just stay put and take in all that is Greek. I also want to to rent a cottage on the wild west of the Irish Coast, and immerse myself in my ancestrial heritage, and just be all things Irish. If there is ever a moon colony while I’m still alive, want to visit that and see the stars up close…I’ve got a lot more…There just isn’t enough time or money for me to fulfill my list, but I’m trying..
Holly, I don’t know how to scuba dive either! But I want to learn. And I suck at swimming too.
I see a book signing tour in your future!
Beth, the place I’m staying meets all of your requirements! Plus, we had a mountain lion stalk my aunt’s Shih-tzu just off the back deck yesterday! OMG! Then this morning a tabby was walking past and my aunt and mil freaked and swore it was a baby, puma. I have never laughed so hard in my life.
Other then the bears and mountain lion it is perfectly peaceful up here. The scents, the landscape, and the nap on the couch after brunch with a toasty crackling fire—priceless.
by Karin September 19th, 2008 at 2:27 pmAmanda you can have that nose diving airplane! And I think they have space camp for adults. My youngest son went the first year NASA had it out here. He was the mission specialist for his crew. It was the first time I ever left him. He was in fourth grade.
Lee, I want to go to the Greek isles as well, and the Irish coast and haunt the Scottish castles with Amanda.
by Karin September 19th, 2008 at 2:31 pmI’d like to have an adventure on the New York Time List
by Jen Apodaca September 19th, 2008 at 2:33 pmDefinitely NOT anything under water. My little brother LOVED Sea Hunt, and as far as I’m concerned, Lloyd Bridges nearly died every week, which turned me off anything remotely resembling SCUBA diving. I did finally get up the nerve to snorkel while we were in the Caribbean, but only on the surface.
But I did climb Ayers Rock in Australia, and did some sea kayaking in Friday Harbor, and did some game drives in South Africa. However, we slept in nice hotels every night. I was more adventuous when I was younger, but never had the opportunity. Back then, my biggest “adventure” was being stuck in an airport for about 5 hours with my 3 little kids waiting for a mechanical issue with a plane to be solved.
by Terry Odell September 19th, 2008 at 2:34 pmcrap, I just lost my comment and it disappeared!
Okay, I wanna go to Ireland, and dance on the Emerald Isle. I want to see the pyramids, and strap on a backpack and walk across some Ley lines in Spain. I want to bake on a Hawaii beach, and visit Australia in the outpost. I wanna ride a horse in Montana, and watch a sunset over a campfire. Oh, I want to see Carmel Calif one day too.
I hear it’s an artist community.
by LaDonna September 19th, 2008 at 6:35 pmOoops, hope your having fun, Karin!
by LaDonna September 19th, 2008 at 6:37 pmI’ve kind of swam with dolphins, but would like to do more. Mostly I’d love to travel all over the world. And like Jen says, have an adventure on the NY Times bestselling list.
by Edie September 20th, 2008 at 4:21 pmJen, I’d love to join you on that adventure!
Terry, Australia is on my Adventures To Do list.
LaD I can personally guarantee you would love Carmel! Come on out and we’ll go hang out!! I’m serious. And I did have fun, but that was the quickest two days of my life!
Edie, swimming with the dolphins would be awesome, except, um I can’t swim…very well…hardly, ok if I have flippers I can stay afloat. Sort of. And a life jacket.
by Karin September 20th, 2008 at 4:53 pmI want to go to Ireland, TOO. That must be some sort of paradise, I’m telling ya.
I want to travel a lot, when my girls graduate from high school. And I am SERIOUSLY considering a motor home… Me. By myself. Crazy.
by Natalie September 20th, 2008 at 8:27 pmNat, I wanna a spin in the Winnebago!
