So how was your weekend?

Let me tell you about mine. My husband came home early Friday so we went to lunch. We decided to try this place near by that is supposed to be like a 1950′s diner. I got a pastrami sandwich.

I suspect the grease dripping out of the sandwich was from the 1950′s.

Saturday? I got up and thought, Hmm, I must have made the coffee too strong. It’s tastes almost bitter. Then my stomach sent out a message, DO NOT EAT AT THAT DINER EVER AGAIN!

Message received and I spent Saturday with my bottle of Pepto.

Sunday, I slept all night and woke up feeling great! My coffee tasted just right. I had plans! I wanted to do a few chores, write a blog, maybe take a drive out to see some family and then knock out some pages on my book. I ran up the stairs, did a couple things, grabbed the phone and my glasses, and started down the stairs, thinking about everything EXCEPT what I was actually doing.

My foot slid off a stair. I’m not sure what happened next until my the back of my left hip hit one of the stairs and I swear I saw stars.

“What’s that?” My husband yelled.

Embarrassed, but knowing he would worry, I said, “I slid on the stairs, I’m fine.” I had landed in a sitting position and stayed there. I was trying to get my breath back. Plus there was the little matter of feeling like a hot pole was stuck through my lower back hip area.

He ran up the stairs. After I little coaxing, he got me to try and stand up. It wasn’t pretty.

Sigh…I am such a klutz. The end of the long story is that I’m spending my Sunday with ice and ibuprofen. I can’t sit long enough at the computer to write, but I will tomorrow. I have too.

And that was my weekend. How was yours?

oh no. How are you feeling this morning? I hope with less pains. Take care of yourself.

    My weekend was okay.

Sounds like me last week when I tripped over the broom that had fallen down in the hallway. Slammed into the wall, caught myself with both arms before hitting the floor. Felt the hit in both shoulders and hips. Now my left arm is telling me all about it, still, a week later. I’m whining. Need cheese and wine, maybe just wine.

I hope you feel better soon.

Our neighbors had a party to thank my husband for serving our country. They all made me promise to call or knock on their days (day or night) if I need anything.

He left this morning for three weeks, then he’ll come home for a few days. Then he’s on orders for 400 days for Afghanistan. Four of our five kids start school on Wednesday.

Oh, take care, Jen! I tripped over the cat as I walked down the stairs carrying my kid’s vomit soaked sheets 2 1/2 years ago. I couldn’t walk for a week–even though it was just tendon damage–my ankle still twinges. If you still hurt after a week, you might want to x-ray it,it could be a hairline fracture.
And many years ago, I was kicked in the back (okay, my ass) by my horse (it wasn’t her fault the horses had been stall bound for over a week by a huge ice storm and she was feeling frisky) and yes, you do see stars! And then there’s this really cool tunnel vision that happens when you are about to faint. I had a hoofprint bruise for about 6 months.
Oh, I had good news this weekend–I double finaled in a contest! YAY! I’m excited because I NEVER do well in contests.

I’m challenged enough by a one level house, at least you have stairs for an excuse. I hope you feel better and have no long lasting damage.

Dru, I am better today, thanks for asking! Just sore. Your weekend was just okay?

Wow, Carol, it sounds like you bounced around a bit! Forget the cheese, go for the wine!

HollyD, you have wonderful neighbors! I hope that will make it a little easier for you while your husband is in Afghanistan. Let’s all keep a positive thought for him and he’ll come home safely.

Margaret, EWW on the sheets! I’ve done my time with that! But at least you had an excuse for falling down the stairs. I was thinking about other things and not paying attention to what I was doing. As for as getting kicked by a horse, OUCH! Since I’m doing better today and the pain has localized, I’m pretty sure nothing is fractured or broken (except my pride).

Cele, I hear you! I walk right into walls and furniture because I’m not paying attention. The stupid thing was that I should have dropped the stuff in my hands and grabbed the railing. It just happened so fast!

I still think I should get the KLUTZ award! Since the 4th of July I have fallen down my stairs twice. The first time I hit right on my tail bone and it still hurts a little. The second time I actually caught myself before landing on my tail bone again. Then a few weekends ago I was taking my dog for a walk and missed the last step going down the deck! Luckily again nothing was broken!

I had a pretty good weekend. My boys started Pre-K today so I was running around trying to make sure I had everything ready for that.

I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better.

My weekend was more relaxing than my Thursday and Friday last week.

I had to put my mother into a board and care home following a broken hip and rehab (she’s 83 and also has dementia and skin cancer), and moving day was Thursday. So I spent all day Thursday and Friday running around in 106 degree F heat getting everything she needed to settle in, besides worrying about the fact that she didn’t want to go into the care home in the first place. It was something that had to be done, but with her dementia, she doesn’t really understand that.

So, the weekend was more relaxing…even though I rode along with my best friend as she took her niece to the airport in Sacramento after a visit. That’s about 160 miles one-way; we were on the road by 6 am and got back home by around 1:30 pm. Then, on Saturday night, after visiting my mother, I had to go out and do some more shopping for her.

Then, on Sunday, after another visit with my mother, I learned how to dye wool roving in preparation for learning to spin said roving into yarn. I’m getting (actually took possession last night) a drop spindle for my birthday and I’m going to attempt to learn to spin with it before attempting to learn to spin on a spinning wheel.

Jen, sorry about your fall, hope you feel better. My daughter is the klutz in our family. You would hear a ‘thud’ and we would yell, “Jen, are you okay?” and she would reply, “Yes, it’s just the wall, I think it moved again.” LOL

  13. 13

Erin, you had a tough (and painful) July! Hope your boys love Pre-K!

Elaine, I’m so sorry about your mom. It’s indescribably hard. I hope your mom isn’t in pain. And glad ou had a somewhat relaxing weekend, although you did cover a lot of miles!

  14. 14

Kimh, I think you were in good company! A lot of people have been glued to their TVs!

Amanda, thanks. I’m a klutz, but I don’t usually fall or slip like that. Even my hsuband was surprised. Your daugher’s answer, “Yes, it’s just the wall, I think it moved again.” is priceless! Now that’s usually me! I get so busy I run into walls and furniture.

  15. 15

Ooh, ouch! Poor Jen! I never knew you were a klutz! I hope you’re feeling better today.

I used to fall down stairs on a regular basis and I’m sure it knocked a few billion brain cells loose. I’m a little more cautious these days but still manage to slide on our wooden floors and bash into walls every so often. Just for fun, as my dh would say.

Yikes, girl! are you feeling better today?

My daughter had another bridal shower this weekend so I went to that and had a blast. This one was all of her girlfriends. and OMG! They are a kick. I smiled the entire day, and as the day wound down I looked around at all of the smiling bright faces and then looked at my daughter who was radiant. If she was to be measured as a person by her friends she is a true Queen. I was very proud of her and the people she surrounds herself with.

Kate, my sad little secret is out! I talked to middle son on the phone today and told him about my slide down the stairs. He sighed and said, “You were thinking about your book instead of what you were doing.” Umm, maybe :-)

Karin, you did have a great weekend! I really get your pride in your amazing daughter. They really are worth all the worry and sleepless nights, huh?

And, yeah, I’m feeling better. Should be good as knew in a week or so. Unless I do it again…

  18. 18

    Oh, get better soon, Jen!

  19. 19

    Thanks Deb!

  20. 20

Jen, I am SO sorry! And it sounds exactly like something I would do.

  21. 21

Natalie, it was quite a ride  But I’m thinking I’m going to pass on doing it again. EVER.
